Anthony Randerson
Anthony Penrose Randerson (born 1949) is a New Zealand retired jurist. In 1990/91, he chaired the group that considered Geoffrey Palmer's bill that became the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). In 2019/20, he chaired the group that recommended for the RMA to be abolished. Biography Randerson was born in 1949, the youngest of three boys. His parents were Brian Randerson (1910–1987) and Ngaio (; 1911–2000). His eldest brother is bishop Richard Randerson (born 1940), former Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland. His middle brother, Michael Randerson (1942–1975), was a banker but died young. Randerson graduated from the University of Auckland in 1969 with a Bachelor of Laws. In 1972, he became a partner in the firm Wallace McLean, where he worked with and for John Wallace. From 1989, he was a barrister sole. The High Court of New Zealand ( mi, Te Kōti Matua o Aotearoa) is the superior court of New Zealand. It has general jurisdiction and responsibility, under the Senior Courts Act 2016, as well as the High Court Rules 2016, for the administration of justice throughout New Zealand. There are 18 High Court locations throughout New Zealand, plus one stand-alone registry. The High Court was established in 1841. It was originally called the "Supreme Court of New Zealand", but the name was changed in 1980 to make way for the naming of an eventual new Supreme Court of New Zealand. The office of King's Counsel was established in New Zealand in 1907. During the reign of a male sovereign, appointees are called King's Counsel, and this applied from 1907 to 1952 during the reign of Edward VII (1907–1910), George V (1910–1936), Edward VIII (1936), and George VI (1936–1952). During Elizabeth II's reign (February 1952 – September 2022), new appointees were called Queen's Counsel and living King's Counsel became Queen's Counsel. In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel (post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer.
