Anna Webber (musician)
Anna Kristin Webber is a Canadian saxophonist, flutist, and composer of avant-garde jazz based in Brooklyn. A Guggenheim Award-winning composer, Webber has released a number of critically-acclaimed albums as leader or co-leader, and received accolades for her work as saxophonist, flutist, and arranger. Early life and education Originally from British Columbia, Webber began her studies at Montreal's McGill University. In 2008, she moved to New York City and began a master's degree at Manhattan School of Music. In 2010, Webber completed her master's, was awarded the Prix François-Marcaurelle at Montreal's L'OFF Festival, and released her debut album as leader, ''Third Floor People Don't Need to Worry About Anything''. John Hollenbeck is an American jazz drummer and composer known for his work with The Claudia Quintet and Bob Brookmeyer. Early life and education Hollenbeck was born in Binghamton, New York. He earned degrees in percussion and jazz composition from the Eastman School of Music Career Hollenbeck moved to New York City in the early-1990s. He has worked with Bob Brookmeyer, Fred Hersch, Tony Malaby, the Village Vanguard Orchestra, Kenny Wheeler, Pablo Ziegler, and Meredith Monk. In 1998, he composed ''The Shape of Spirit'', a piece for wind ensemble on Mons Records, and in 1999 composed ''Processional and Desiderata'' for wind ensemble and orator. John Cage
John Milton Cage Jr. (September 5, 1912 – August 12, 1992) was an American composer and music theorist. A pioneer of indeterminacy in music, electroacoustic music, and non-standard use of musical instruments, Cage was one of the leading figures of the post-war avant-garde. Critics have lauded him as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. He was also instrumental in the development of modern dance, mostly through his association with choreographer Merce Cunningham, who was also Cage's romantic partner for most of their lives. Cage is perhaps best known for his 1952 composition '' 4′33″'', which is performed in the absence of deliberate sound; musicians who present the work do nothing aside from being present for the duration specified by the title. MacDowell (artists' Residency And Workshop)
MacDowell is an artist's residency program in Peterborough, New Hampshire, United States, founded in 1907 by composer Edward MacDowell and his wife, pianist and philanthropist Marian MacDowell. Prior to July 2020, it was known as the MacDowell Colony (or simply "the Colony") but the Board of Directors shortened the name to remove "terminology with oppressive overtones". After Edward MacDowell died in 1908, Marian MacDowell established the artists' residency program through a nonprofit association in honor of her husband, raising funds to transform her farm into a quiet retreat for creative artists to work. She led the organization for almost 25 years. Remy Le Boeuf (born August 3, 1986) is a jazz saxophonist, composer and multi-instrumentalist born in Santa Cruz, California. He co-leads the jazz group Le Boeuf Brothers, and has a successful solo career as a composer and sideman integrating jazz, classical, and indie-rock genres. Marc Hannaford
Marc Hannaford is an Australian jazz pianist. He was nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album at the ARIA Music Awards of 2011 and at the AIR Awards of 2011 for ''Shreveport Stomp'' in 2011. He was part of The Antripodean Collective with whom they released three albums. Hannaford won the 2013 Music Council of Australia's Freedman Fellowship, the 2013 Jazz “Bell” award for most original album (''Sarcophile''), and the 2013 Australian Performing Rights Association’s Art Award for best work (“Anda Two”).
