Anna Kleman
Anna Kleman at the International Congress of Women in 1915 Anna Sofia Kleman (1862–1940) was a Swedish insurance officer and feminist. She is remembered for her work as a women's rights activist and pacifist, especially in regard to voting rights. She participated in the 1911 Stockholm Women's Suffrage Conference and represented Sweden at the 1915 International Women's Peace Conference in the Hague. When the charity Save the Children was formed in 1919 she was on the board of the Swedish counterpart Rädda Barnen. Eventually she would become the chair of the board. Biography Born in Karlskrona in 1862, Anna Sofia Kleman was the daughter of Commander Carl Kleman (1820–1872) and Johanna Augusta Grahm (1825–1904). Her younger sister, Ellen Kleman (1867–1943), was also active in the women's movement. By 1895, she was working for the Thule insurance company in Stockholm. Nya Idun
Nya Idun is a Swedish cultural association for women founded in 1885, originally as a female counterpart to Sällskapet Idun ('the Idun Society'). Its aim was to "gather educated women in the Stockholm area for informal gatherings". There was also an early 20th-century women's journal of the same name. Activity Nya Idun was founded on 7 February 1885 in the premises of the at Jakobsbergsgatan 11 in Stockholm. Its founders were Calla Curman, Hanna Winge, Ellen Fries, Ellen Key and Amelie Wikström. The first fifteen women elected to the association's committee were Alfhild Agrell, Lilly Engström, Selma Giöbel, Therese Gyldén, Anna Höjer, Amanda Kerfstedt, Anne Charlotte Leffler, Hulda Lundin, Agda Montelius, Anna Munthe-Norstedt, Mathilda Roos, Anna Sandström, Hilma Svedbom, Anna Whitlock, and Coraly Zethræus. ''Hertha'' is a Swedish-language women's magazine published by the Fredrika Bremer Association, named after Swedish writer and feminist Fredrika Bremer's novel '' Hertha''. National Woman Suffrage Association
The National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) was formed on May 15, 1869, to work for women's suffrage in the United States. Its main leaders were Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. It was created after the women's rights movement split over the proposed Fifteenth Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, which would in effect extend voting rights to black men. One wing of the movement supported the amendment while the other, the wing that formed the NWSA, opposed it, insisting that voting rights be extended to all women and all African Americans at the same time. The NWSA worked primarily at the federal level in its campaign for women's right to vote. In the early 1870s, it encouraged women to attempt to vote and to file lawsuits if prevented, arguing that the constitution implicitly enfranchised women through its guarantees of equal protection for all citizens. The International Council of Women (ICW) is a women's rights organization working across national boundaries for the common cause of advocating human rights for women. In March and April 1888, women leaders came together in Washington, D.C., with 80 speakers and 49 delegates representing 53 women's organizations from nine countries: Canada, the United States, Ireland, India, United Kingdom, Finland, Denmark, France and Norway. Women from professional organizations, trade unions, arts groups and benevolent societies participate.
