Anlene Orchard Mile
The Anlene Orchard Mile is a sporting event exclusive to women held in Singapore where women either run or walk a mile (1.6 kilometres) on a straight course down Singapore's most famous and popular shopping street, Orchard Road. Just for the event, traffic authorities close off two lanes of one of Singapore's busiest streets for the duration of the race that is usually held in the morning from 7am onwards. The flag-off for the mile begins near the Dhoby Ghaut MRT station and ends near Orchard MRT station where participants run past famous landmarks such as the Istana, the President's place of residence. Orchard Road, often known colloquially as simply Orchard, is a major –long road in the Central Area of Singapore. Known as a famous tourist attraction, it is an upscale shopping area of Singapore, with numerous internationally renowned department stores, restaurants and coffeehouses located in its vicinity. Orchard MRT Station
Orchard MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the North South (NSL) and Thomson–East Coast (TEL) lines, located on the boundaries of the Orchard and River Valley planning areas of Singapore. Being the principal and one of the three MRT stations (the other two being Somerset and Dhoby Ghaut) that serve the popular shopping district along Orchard Road, Orchard station is one of the network's busiest stations. Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disorder characterized by low bone mass, micro-architectural deterioration of bone tissue leading to bone fragility, and consequent increase in fracture risk. It is the most common reason for a broken bone among the elderly. Bones that commonly break include the vertebrae in the spine, the bones of the forearm, and the hip. Until a broken bone occurs there are typically no symptoms. Bones may weaken to such a degree that a break may occur with minor stress or spontaneously. In orthopedics, weight-bearing is the amount of weight a patient puts on an injured body part. Generally, it refers to a leg, ankle or foot that has been fractured or upon which surgery has been performed, but the term can also be used to refer to resting on an arm or a wrist. In general, it is described as a percentage of the body weight, because each leg of a healthy person carries the full body weight when walking, in an alternating fashion. Fifth Avenue Mile
The Fifth Avenue Mile is an annual road race on Fifth Avenue in New York City, United States. The race begins at 80th Street and heads twenty blocks south to 60th Street. First held on September 26, 1981, the race is currently organized by New York Road Runners. The competition regularly attracts world-class runners, who compete in special heats after the regular age division heats. The Fifth Avenue Mile has also inspired similar events in the same mould, including the Anlene Orchard Mile in Singapore. The record performances of the race are Sydney Maree's victory at the inaugural race in 3:47.52, and Laura Muir's time of 4:14.8 set in 2022. Jennifer Simpson of the United States has historically been the most successful athlete at the competition, having won 8 races. ''Sport Relief'' was a biennial charity event from Comic Relief, in association with BBC Sport, established in 2002.
