La Clandestine Absinthe is a Swiss ''La Bleue'', or clear, absinthe brand produced by Artemisia-Bugnon distilleries. It is an anise-flavored, distilled liquor containing the herb wormwood (''Artemisia absinthium''), and when prepared with cold water will louche. La Clandestine Absinthe comes in four main styles, as detailed below. La Clandestine Absinthe According to the manufacturer, La Clandestine is based on a 1935 recipe by Swiss distiller Charlotte Vaucher which Bugnon had been circulating unofficially for several years prior to the Swiss lifting a near one-hundred-year ban on absinthe March 1, 2005. Following the lift, Bugnon applied for an official license and became one of the first distillers in the Val-de-Travers region to be granted one. It is now commercially produced and sold by Artemisia-Bugnon. Marie-Josèphe dite Angélique (died June 21, 1734) was the name given to a Portuguese-born black slave in New France (later the province of Quebec in Canada) by her last owners. She was tried and convicted of setting fire to her owner's home, burning much of what is now referred to as Old Montreal. It had been generally accepted that Angélique was guilty, but it has recently been argued that she was innocent of the crime and was convicted more on the basis of her reputation as a rebellious runaway slave than on the basis of factual evidence. A competing theory is that she was guilty of the crime but was acting in rebellion against slavery. No consensus has been reached by historians regarding Angélique's actual guilt or innocence. Mondeuse noire () is a red French wine grape variety that is grown primarily in the Savoy region of eastern France. The grape can also be found in Argentina, Australia, California, Switzerland and Sicily. Plantings of Mondeuse noire was hit hard during the phylloxera epidemic of the mid to late 19th century which nearly wiped out the vine from eastern France. While the grape recovered slightly in the 20th century, French plantations of Mondeuse noire fell sharply in the 1970s, with just over left in France in 2000. In the early 21st century, it seems the variety has increased somewhat in popularity, as it can give good wines if the planting site is chosen carefully. It was previously suggested that Mondeuse noire was identical to the northern Italian wine grape variety Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso due to the similarity of the wines. The ''angélique'' (French, from Italian ''angelica'') is a plucked string instrument of the lute family of the baroque era. It combines features of the lute, the harp, and the theorbo. It shares the form of its pear-shaped body as well as its vibrating string length of 54 to 70 cm with the lute. Differing from the lute, the 16 string angelica was single-strung like a theorbo, with which it shares its extended neck with a second peg box, bearing six bass strings.
