Andrew Louth
Andrew Louth (; born 11 November 1944) is an English theologian. He is an emeritus professor of patristic and Byzantine studies in the Department of Theology and Religion of Durham University. Louth has been at Durham University since 1996. Previously he taught at the University of Oxford (mostly patristics) and at Goldsmiths' College in Byzantine and early medieval history. He is a fellow of the British Academy and was a member of the British Academy Council from 2011 to 2014. He was President of the Ecclesiastical History Society (2009–10). Born on 11 November 1944 in Louth, Lincolnshire, he was educated at the universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh. Formerly an Anglican priest, he converted to Eastern Orthodoxy in 1989 and was ordained as an Eastern Orthodox priest in 2003. The Reverend
The Reverend is an honorific style most often placed before the names of Christian clergy and ministers. There are sometimes differences in the way the style is used in different countries and church traditions. ''The Reverend'' is correctly called a ''style'' but is often and in some dictionaries called a title, form of address, or title of respect. The style is also sometimes used by leaders in other religions such as Judaism and Buddhism. The term is an anglicisation of the Latin ''reverendus'', the style originally used in Latin documents in medieval Europe. Sheridan Gilley
Sheridan Gilley (born 27 April 1945) is an Australian author and historian. Biography He was born on 27 April 1945 in Brisbane, Australia. He is the son of Wayne Grover Gilley, a journalist and his wife Betty Margaret Gilley. He married Margaret Mary Haworth a health care executive and vicar on June 15, 1974, and had two children with her. Education He completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Queensland in 1966 and his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 1971. The Russian Orthodox Diocese of Sourozh (russian: Суро́жская епа́рхия) is a diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), covering the islands of Great Britain and Ireland. Eastern Orthodoxy
Eastern Orthodoxy, also known as Eastern Orthodox Christianity, is one of the three main branches of Chalcedonian Christianity, alongside Catholicism and Protestantism. Like the Pentarchy of the first millennium, the mainstream (or "canonical") Eastern Orthodox Church is organised into autocephalous churches independent from each other. In the 21st century, the number of mainstream autocephalous churches is seventeen; there also exist autocephalous churches unrecognized by those mainstream ones. Autocephalous churches choose their own primate. The Ecclesiastical History Society (EHS) is a British learned historical society founded in 1961 to foster interest in, and to advance the study of, all areas of the history of the Christian Church through twice yearly conferences and publications. Founders include C. W. Dugmore of King's College, University of London, Dom David Knowles (the first President), and W. H. C. Frend.
