Altenkirchen (district)
Altenkirchen () is a district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the North Rhine-Westphalian districts Rhein-Sieg, Oberbergischer Kreis, Olpe and Siegen-Wittgenstein, and the districts of Westerwaldkreis and Neuwied. History The history of the district is linked with the Westerwald region. The district was established in 1816 by the Prussian administration. It combined the county of Wildenburg and the two counties of Sayn. The former had been part of Berg, the latter ones had belonged to the duchy of Nassau. The county used to be divided into nine mayoralties, including the Bürgermeisterei Weyerbusch. Geography Altenkirchen is the northernmost district of Rhineland-Palatinate. Ewald Schnug
Ewald Schnug (born 7 September 1954) is a German agricultural scientist, university lecturer and researcher specialised in Plant nutrition and Soil science. Life Schnug was born in Hachenburg, Westerwald, the first child of the master gardener Ewald Schnug and his wife Marianne, née Haas. He grew up at the parental nursery in Altenkirchen, Westerwald. He was baptised a Catholic, was an altar boy from 1960 to 1968 and a member of the parish council St. Jakobus in Altenkirchen from 1970 to 1971. In the early 1970s he was a member of the junior squad of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany in its Altenkirchen district association and the local branch of the German Life Saving Association. Wilhelm Boden
Wilhelm Boden (5 March 1890 – 18 October 1961) was a German lawyer, civil servant and politician ( Centre Party & CDU). From 1946 to 1947 he was the first Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate. He contributed substantially to the rebuilding of the administration and to the formation of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, where he continued former Prussian administrative traditions. On 1 December 1946, Boden was appointed by the French military government as prime minister of the "Provisional Government" of Rheinland-Pfalz with the mission to prepare a draft constitution and conduct elections. After the election on 18 May 1947 he became minister president of a "transitional Cabinet" but failed to form a government; the SPD denied him the coalition as he was considered controversial even within the party, so the leadership of the affairs of the newly created state passed to Peter Altmeier. Ernst Lindemann
Otto Ernst Lindemann (28 March 1894 – 27 May 1941) was a German ''Kapitän zur See'' ( naval captain). He was the only commander of the battleship during its eight months of service in World War II. Lindemann joined the German Imperial Navy () in 1913, and after his basic military training, served on a number of warships during World War I as a wireless telegraphy officer. On board , he participated in Operation Albion in 1917. After World War I, he served in various staff and naval gunnery training positions. Lahrer Herrlichkeit
The Lahrer Herrlichkeit is a landscape region in the collective municipality of Flammersfeld in the county of Altenkirchen in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. General The region lies on the middle reaches of the River Wied and owes its name to Lahr Castle, which is now a ruins located above the Wied. The present-day region of Lahrer Herrlichkeit includes the villages of Burglahr, Peterslahr, Eulenberg and Oberlahr. It has a population of around 1,700 and covers an area of about 12 km2. Hans "Hanne" Nüsslein (; 31 March 1910 – 28 June 1991) was a German tennis player and coach and former World professional number 1 tennis player who won four professional Majors singles titles during his career. Biography Nüsslein was born in Nuremberg on 31 March 1910. In his youth, he played football, handball and tennis at the 1. FC Nürnberg. After finishing school he apprenticed as a mechanic. At age 16, he gave tennis lessons to other club members for which he was paid a small amount. After a member of a neighboring club reported this to the German Tennis Federation, Nüsslein received a lifetime ban from amateur competition, preventing him from competing at Grand Slam tournaments. François Séverin Marceau-Desgraviers (; 1 March 1769 – 21 September 1796) was a French general of the French Revolutionary Wars, Revolutionary Wars. Early life Desgraviers was born on 1 March 1769 in Chartres, in the province of Orléanais, the son of a prosecutor. On December 1785, at the age of 16, he enlisted in the Angoulême Infantry Regiment, which later became the 34th Infantry Regiment of the French Army.
