Alexander Gibbs
Alexander Gibbs & Co. was a British stained glass studio founded in 1858 by Alexander Gibbs when he split off from the family firm founded by his father Isaac Alexander Gibbs in 1848. The studio continued until 1915. It was first located at 38 Bedford Square and moved in 1876 to Bloomsbury Street. The east window in the Church of St Mary in Bideford in Devon is by Gibbs (1865). His windows in All Saints, Margaret Street (commissioned in 1877) are among his most elaborate surviving works. Cowfold South Aisle West Window
Cowfold is a village and civil parish between Billingshurst and Haywards Heath in the Horsham (district), Horsham District of West Sussex, England. The village is at the intersection of the A272 road, A272 and A281 roads. The parish has a land area of 1926 hectare (4756 acres). In the 2001 census 1,864 people lived in 729 households, of whom 987 were economically active. The population at the 2011 Census had risen to 1,904. The village has a shop, café, Indian restaurant, beauty salon, hairdressers, barbers, VW motor service centre and lawn-mower shop. The 'Hare and Hounds' pub is also to the south of the village. Stained Glass
Stained glass is coloured glass as a material or works created from it. Throughout its thousand-year history, the term has been applied almost exclusively to the windows of churches and other significant religious buildings. Although traditionally made in flat panels and used as windows, the creations of modern stained glass artists also include three-dimensional structures and sculpture. Modern vernacular usage has often extended the term "stained glass" to include domestic lead light and '' objets d'art'' created from foil glasswork exemplified in the famous lamps of Louis Comfort Tiffany. As a material ''stained glass'' is glass that has been coloured by adding metallic salts during its manufacture, and usually then further decorating it in various ways. Bedford Square
Bedford Square is a garden square in the Bloomsbury district of the Borough of Camden in London, England. History Built between 1775 and 1783 as an upper middle class residential area, the square has had many distinguished residents, including Lord Eldon, one of Britain's longest serving and most celebrated Lord Chancellors, who lived in the largest house in the square for many years. The square takes its name from the main title of the Russell family, the Dukes of Bedford, who owned much of the land in what is now Bloomsbury. The architect Thomas Leverton is known to have designed some of the houses, although he may not have been responsible for all of them. The building agreements for Bedford Square were signed by the trustees of the late Duke of Bedford and William Scott and Robert Grews, the builders, in 1776. The Church of St Mary is the Anglicanism, Anglican parish church for the town of Bideford in Devon in the UK. Built in 1865, it replaces a Norman architecture, Norman church of 1260. The church has been Listed building, Grade II* listed by Historic England since 1949Grade II* listing for St Mary's church, Bideford - Historic England database and comes under the Diocese of Exeter.
