Aleksander Weintraub
Aleksander Weintraub (pen name Aleksander Dan; 6 January 1897 – 1943) was a Polish poet and writer, from a Jewish family from Lwów. In the 1930s he published in the Lwów magazine ''Sygnaly'' (Signals) and other leftist papers. He was closely associated with the Polish Communist Party. In 1935 he was an initiator of the formation, and later a member, of the Congress of Cultural Workers, associated with the party. For his communist activism he was arrested in 1937 and imprisoned for two years. After the Soviets occupied Lwów he became one of the leading members of the collaborationist newspaper '' Czerwony Sztandar'' ("The Red Flag"), writing mostly on cultural matters. ''Sygnały'' Magazyn (''Signals'' Magazine) was a Polish cultural and social magazine published 1933–1939 in Lwów (Lemberg, today Lviv, Ukraine). It was a leading periodical of the leftist Polish intelligentsia. The journal started as a 12-page monthly and was subsequently published once every two weeks, with editions of up to 32 pages. Sygnały was published in the tabloid format, similar to the ''New York Times'' at about 56x40 cm (22x16 inches). The interwar Communist Party of Poland ( pl, Komunistyczna Partia Polski, KPP) was a communist party active in Poland during the Second Polish Republic. It resulted from a December 1918 merger of the Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania (SDKPiL) and the Polish Socialist Party – Left (PPS – Left) into the Communist Workers' Party of Poland (''Komunistyczna Partia Robotnicza Polski'', KPRP). The communists were a small force in Polish politics. The Communist Party of Poland (until 1925 the Communist Workers' Party of Poland) was an organization of the radical Left. Czerwony Sztandar ( en, Red Banner) was a Polish language daily newspaper, published by the Soviet Union, Soviet Soviet invasion of Poland, occupation authorities in the city of Lwów (Lviv, Ukraine), between 5 October 1939 and June 1941, and then again between 1944 and 1950. Belzec Concentration Camp
Belzec (English: or , Polish: ) was a Nazi German extermination camp built by the SS for the purpose of implementing the secretive Operation Reinhard, the plan to murder all Polish Jews, a major part of the "Final Solution" which in total entailed the murder of about 6 million Jews in the Holocaust. The camp operated from to the end of . It was situated about south of the local railroad station of Bełżec, in the new Lublin District of the General Government territory of German-occupied Poland.
