Albanian Weightlifting Federation
The Albanian Weightlifting Federation (FSHP) () is a permanent non-profit organization founded in 1949 in Tirana, Albania. As a member of the National Olympic Committee of Albania and one of the oldest sports federations in the country, it has the legal authority to organize national and international competitions for the sport of weightlifting. The federation was admitted as a member of the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) and the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). Olympic Weightlifting
Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk). The clean and press, wherein a clean was followed by an overhead press, was formerly also a competition lift, but was discontinued due to difficulties in judging proper form. Albania At The Mediterranean Games
Albania has competed at every celebration of the Mediterranean Games since the 1987 Mediterranean Games. As of 2022, Albanian athletes have won a total of 49 medals. The country's ranking in the history of the Games is the 17th place. History Albania participate for the first time in their history at the Mediterranean Games in 1987 Syria. It would be their most successful participanton, as Albania secured eight medals in which they won three gold medals in total. Two by the females in Basketball and Volleyball, and by men Shooter Kirsti Robo. Albania first participated at the Summer Olympic Games in 1972. They missed the next four games, three of them for political reasons due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott, 1984 Summer Olympics boycott and 1988 boycotts, but returned for the Barcelona 1992 Summer Olympics. The Albanian National Olympic Committee ''( Albanian: Komiteti Olimpik Kombëtar Shqiptar - KOKSH)'' is a non-profit organisation and the legal authority of Albania's participation in the Olympic Games. As a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it is responsible for the development and management of all olympic related activities in the country. Sport in Albania revolves mostly around team sports, such as football, basketball, volleyball and handball. Other sports includes boxing, weightlifting, tennis, swimming, judo, karate, athletics, table tennis, and chess.
