Alan Ganoo
Alan Ganoo (born 17 January 1951) is a Mauritian politician who has been elected to serve as member of the Legislative Assembly and National Assembly on 9 occasions. Early life and education Alan Ganoo was born in Port Louis, his father was a police sergeant and he grew up with four sisters and two brothers. Under British rule of the 1800s his ancestors migrated to Mauritius from Maharashtra, India. He completed his secondary education at Royal College Port Louis. He studied law at Middle Temple and at King's College, London and has practised as a barrister since 1975. 2019 Mauritian General Election
General elections were held in Mauritius on 7 November 2019. The result was a victory for the Mauritian Alliance (a coalition of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM), Muvman Liberater, Alan Ganoo Movement and Plateforme Militante (Mauritius), Plateforme Militante), which won 42 of the 70 seats. Pravind Jugnauth of the MSM remained Prime Minister. The Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM) ( en, Mauritian Militant Movement) is a left-wing socialist political party in Mauritius. The party was formed by a group of students in the late 1960s. The MMM advocates what it sees as a "fairer" society, without discrimination on the basis of social class, race, community, caste, religion, gender or sexual orientation. In the general election of 2014, the MMM became the second largest party in the National Assembly of Mauritius with 12 Members of Parliament, and the second largest party at the municipal level, with 4 councillors. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth (born 25 December 1961) is a Mauritian politician serving as the prime minister of Mauritius since January 2017. Jugnauth has been the leader of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) party since April 2003. He has held a number of ministerial portfolios and also been Leader of the Opposition. Early life and education Born on 25 December 1961 in La Caverne, a suburb area in Vacoas-Phoenix, Mauritius, Jugnauth was born into a Hindu Yaduvanshi family. He was born to Anerood Jugnauth, a barrister, and Sarojini Ballah, a schoolteacher. He has an elder sister, Shalini Jugnauth-Malhotra.
