Akio Minakami
Akio Minakami is a ninth Dan Karate practitioner of Hayashi-Ha Shitoryu-Kai, president of the United States Hayashi-ha Shitoryu-Kai, and a former professional martial arts competitor. Born in Tokyo, Japan, he immigrated to the United States in 1967 with his parents. His training in the martial arts began at the age of 7 under Takagi where he trained in Jujitsu and Kodokan Judo. At age 21 he was the first man to win both kata and kumite at the ''All Hawaii Championships''. Other notable accomplishments include winning 5 gold medals each at the Hayashi-Ha Shitoryu-Kai International Championships, the All Japan Karate Championships, and the AAU National Championships. Akio Minakami received his Shihan certificate in 1983 from both the Hayashi-Ha school and the Federation of All Japan Karatedo Organization. Yamanni Ryu
Yamanni-ryū (山根流) (also Yamanni-Chinen-ryū and Yamane Ryu) is a form of Okinawan kobudō whose main weapon is the bo, a non-tapered, cylindrical staff. The smaller buki, such as sai, tunfa (or tonfa), nunchaku, and kama (weapon) are studied as secondary weapons. Kenshin-ryū
Kenshin-ryū is a style of Okinawan kobudō that focuses on the use of the bō staff that is taught as a complementary style to Shito-ryū karate. As a supplementary style, it is known across the Japan, the US and Europe. One of its primary teachers is Akio Minakami. In theory, Kenshin-ryū was the "peasants' art", and consists of several blocks, strikes, thrusts, and evasions. It is, however, an effective and powerful style that provides good basics and kihon that are easily absorbed into further kobudō training with other styles. Sai (weapon)
The ''sai'' ( Japanese: 釵, ; Chinese: 鐵尺, ) is a traditional Okinawan stabbing weapon used for stabbing and striking. It is primarily used in ninjutsu and kobudo, as well as in southern Chinese martial arts. The basic form of the weapon is that of a metal prong with two curved sideprongs (''yoku'') projecting from the handle (''tsuka''). There are many different types of sai with varying prongs for trapping and blocking. is a modern Japanese martial art, descended from kenjutsu (one of the old Japanese martial arts, swordsmanship), that uses bamboo swords ( shinai) as well as protective armor ( bōgu).
