Aias Salamina Football Club (''Ajax of Salamis'' in English, el, Αίας Σαλαμίνας) is a Greek football club based in Salamina, Salamis Island. The association was founded in 1931. History In the 1960s and 1970s it played in high leagues against the likes of Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, AEK Athens or PAOK, and many others . After many years in the lower tiers, Aias secured promotion to the third, professional, league of the Greek pyramid in 2007. The pitch is on the road between Salamis city and Aianteio and seats 1500 visitors. The team colours are blue and white. In the past Aias had gained many championships and cups in lower Hellenic divisions . The club had many emerging players who, after successful stints with Aias, eventually moved to larger Greek teams. Aias Salaminas derives its name from the Salaminan king Ajax the Great. The Gamma Ethniki ( el, Γ΄ Εθνική Ερασιτεχνική Κατηγορία, C National Amateur Division) is the third highest football league in Greece. History The Gamma Ethniki began in 1965 as an amateur championship, while in 1983 it was changed to professional. Although not literally national (it is divided into ''North'' and ''South'' groups), Football League 2 is considered as a national division. On 3 August 2010, it was announced that the division had been renamed ''Football League 2''. From season 2013–14, the football League 2 is merged by fourth division championship (Delta Ethniki) and renamed again Gamma Ethniki. The new third division will be held in six groups, with the clubs divided basis of geographical criteria, while it will return in an amateur form. The Piraeus Football Clubs Association ( el, Ένωση Ποδοσφαιρικών Σωματείων Πειραιώς, abbreviated E.P.S.P. (Ε.Π.Σ.Π.) was founded in 1925 after the termination of E.P.S. Athens-Piraeus. It was the second largest football association in Greece and was officially recognized by FIFA alongside E.P.S. Athens, as the Hellenic Football Federation had not been established at the time. After the establishment of Alpha Ethniki it became the Piraeus Football Clubs Association for amateurs. The 2008–09 Gamma Ethniki was the 26th season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. 2007–08 Gamma Ethniki
The 2007–08 Gamma Ethniki was the 25th season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. It started on September 23, 2007 and ended on June 8, 2008. Diagoras and Kavala were crowned champions in ''South'' and ''North'' Groups, respectively, thus winning promotion to Beta Ethniki. The third promotion ticket was gained by Anagennisi Karditsa, second-placed in ''North'' Group, after the win against Ilioupoli, second-placed in ''South'', to the single play-off match which was held on June 14, 2008, at Georgios Kamaras Stadium.
