Agathis Macrophylla
''Agathis macrophylla'' (also ''Agathis silbae'') known as Pacific kauri, is a Pinophyta, coniferous tree native to the islands of the southwestern Pacific Ocean in tropical humid lowlands and lower montane regions, notably in Fiji, Vanuatu, the Santa Cruz Islands, and the Solomon Islands. The Pacific kauri is one of the largest and fastest growing species in its genus, and is important in forestry. Description It is a large evergreen tree, reaching 40 m in height and 3 m in diameter. It possesses the mottled, shedding Bark (botany), bark that is characteristic of other Agathis, kauri species. Young trees are narrow and conic in shape, but begin to grow a wider, deeper canopy (forest), canopy after attaining a trunk diameter of 30–50 cm. John Lindley
John Lindley FRS (5 February 1799 – 1 November 1865) was an English botanist, gardener and orchidologist. Early years Born in Catton, near Norwich, England, John Lindley was one of four children of George and Mary Lindley. George Lindley was a nurseryman and pomologist and ran a commercial nursery garden. Although he had great horticultural knowledge, the undertaking was not profitable and George lived in a state of indebtedness. As a boy he would assist in the garden and also collected wild flowers he found growing in the Norfolk countryside. Lindley was educated at Norwich School. He would have liked to go to university or to buy a commission in the army but the family could not afford either. He became Belgian agent for a London seed merchant in 1815.
