Addington Highlands ( 2016 population 2,323) is a township in central eastern Ontario, Canada, in the County of Lennox and Addington. Bon Echo Provincial Park is located primarily in Addington Highlands. History Addington Highlands was formed in 1998 through the amalgamation of the Township of Kaladar, Anglesea and Effingham with the Township of Denbigh, Abinger and Ashby. This area was first settled following the construction of the Addington Road in 1857. It was originally named Scouten after its first postmaster. The old CPR rail bed passing through the town has become part of the Trans Canada Trail. Lennox And Addington County, Ontario
Lennox and Addington County is a county and census division of the Canadian province of Ontario. The county seat is Greater Napanee. It is located in the subregion of Southern Ontario named Eastern Ontario. Around the middle of the 19th century, the Addington Road was built by the province to encourage settlement in the northern sections of the county. Skootamatta Lake
Skootamatta Lake is a lake in the Lake Ontario drainage basin in Addington Highlands, Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada. It is west of Cloyne, and Bon Echo Provincial Park is located just to the north. The lake's name is thought to come from Ojibwa words meaning "burnt shoreline". Geography Skootamatta Lake is about long and wide, and lies at an elevation of . There is one named bay in the northwest of the lake called Jacques' Bay, and two named islands, Bible Island and Blake Island. The primary inflow, at the northeast bay, is the Skootamatta River from the direction of Pearson Lake. Mazinaw Lake
Lake Mazinaw is a lake in the Addington Highlands north of Kaladar in Eastern Ontario. The lake is situated on the upper Mississippi River. It has a perimeter of and averages in depth with a maximum depth of , making it the seventh-deepest lake in Ontario, including the Great Lakes. There is a narrows which divides the lake into two sections: South Mazinaw, and North Mazinaw, with North Mazinaw being larger and deeper. Bon Echo Provincial Park encompasses the central section of the lake, including the narrows between North and South Mazinaw and the Bon Echo Rock formation attracts rock climbers from all over the world. Joeperry Lake
Joeperry Lake is a lake in the Lake Ontario drainage basin in Addington Highlands, Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada. It measures approximately northwest of Cloyne and is within Bon Echo Provincial Park. Joeperry Lake is the source of the Skootamatta River. It is about long and wide, and lies at an elevation of . Deerock Lake
Deerock Lake is a lake in the Moira River in Tweed, Hastings County and Addington Highlands, Lennox and Addington County in Ontario, Canada. The lake is about long and wide and lies at an elevation of about west of the community of Northbrook on Ontario Highway 41 and about north of the village of Flinton. Only the southwest tip of the lake lies in Tweed, Hastings County. The small Deerock Conservation Area operated by Quinte Conservation at the southeast of the lake and at the end of Deer Rock Lake Road, provides public access to the lake, and includes parking ($10/day) and a boat launch. The primary inflow is Partridge Creek at the northwest. Ontario Highway 41
King's Highway 41, commonly referred to as Highway 41, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The highway travels in a predominantly north–south direction across eastern Ontario, from Highway 7 in Kaladar to Highway 148 in Pembroke. The majority of this distance crosses through a rugged forested region known as Mazinaw Country. However, the route enters the agricultural Ottawa Valley near Dacre. A significant portion of Highway41 follows the historic Addington Colonization Road, built in 1854. Highway41 was first assumed in 1935, though ironically the initial route is no longer part of the highway. It was extended north to meet the eastern terminus of Highway 60 at Golden Lake in 1937. King's Highway 7, commonly referred to as Highway 7 and historically as the Northern Highway, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. At its peak, Highway 7 measured in length, stretching from Highway 40 east of Sarnia in Southwestern Ontario to Highway 17 west of Ottawa in Eastern Ontario. However, due in part to the construction of Highways 402 and 407, the province transferred the sections of Highway 7 west of London and through the Greater Toronto Area to county and regional jurisdiction. Kaladar, Ontario
Kaladar is a compact rural community and unincorporated area in the municipality of Addington Highlands, Lennox and Addington County in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located at the junction of Ontario Highway 7 and Ontario Highway 41. To the north is a quaint little town by the name of Northbrook. Further north is Bon Echo Provincial Park. Other nearby natural areas are the Kaladar Pine Barrens Conservation Reserve and Puzzle Lake Provincial Park. This area was first settled following the construction of the Addington Road in 1857. The Trans Canada Trail, officially named The Great Trail between September 2016 and June 2021, is a cross- Canada system of greenways, waterways, and roadways that stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Arctic oceans. The trail extends over ; it is now the longest recreational, multi-use trail network in the world. The idea for the trail began in 1992, shortly after the Canada 125 celebrations.
