Ad Dakhiliyah ( ar, الداخلية, Ad-Dāḫilīyah, meaning: The Interior) is one of the governorates ('' muhafazah'') of Oman with Nizwa town as the regional center. It was previously a region ('' mintaqah''). It became a governorate on 28 October 2011. Governorates Of Oman
Oman is divided into eleven governorates ('' muhafazah''), and has been since 28 October 2011. Each of the 11 governorates are divided into '' wilayat'' (provinces). Regions and governorates before 2011 Before 28 October 2011, Oman was divided into five regions ('' mintaqah'') and four governorates ('' muhafazah''). The governorates were Muscat, Dhofar, Buraimi and Musandam. Buraimi was created in October 2006 from parts of Ad Dhahirah Region. The regions are further subdivided into 61 wilayat. Each region has one or more regional center with a grand total of twelve. Al Hamra, Oman
Al Hamra ( ar, ٱلْحَمْرَاء, Al-Ḥamrāʾ) is a 400-year-old town in the region Ad Dakhiliyah, in northeastern Oman. As a province (wilayat), it is home to a number of villages including the mountainside village of Misfat Al Abryeen, with the village of Ghul to the northwest of the town, and Bimah to the north-northeast. The town and province lie on the southern slopes of the Akhdar Mountains. Al Hamra is also known as Hamra Al Abryeen with reference to the Al Abri tribe who live there. Near the center of the town is a plaza and the souq. Some of the oldest preserved houses in Oman can be found in Al Hamra, a town built on a tilted rock slab. Many of the houses have two, three and even four stories, with ceilings made of palm beams and fronds topped by mud and straw. Visitors to the nearby souq can watch a halwa maker at work in the only halwa shop still operating in the old souq. Al Dhahirah (; ''Muḥāfaẓat aẓ-Ẓāhirah'') is one of the governorates (''muhafazah'') of Oman. It was previously a region (''mintaqah''). It became a governorate on 28 October 2011. Ash-Sharqiyyah Region ( ar, ٱلْمِنْطَقَة ٱلشَّرْقِيَّة, Al-Minṭaqah Ash-Sharqiyyah, lit=The Eastern Region) was the eastern '' minṭaqah'' (region) of the Sultanate of Oman. The capital of Ash-Sharqiyyah is Sur. On 28 October 2011 Ash Sharqiyah Region was split into Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate and Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate. Al-Bāţinah ( ar, ٱلْبَاطِنَة) was one of the regions ''( Mintaqat)'' of Oman. On 28 October 2011, Al-Batinah Region was split into Al Batinah North Governorate and Al Batinah South Governorate. The region occupied an important location on the coast of Gulf of Oman. It lay between Khatmat Malahah in the north and Ras al-Hamra in the south, and confined between Al Hajar Mountains in the west and the Gulf of Oman in the east. Izki ( ar, إِزْكِي) is a town in the region Ad Dakhiliyah, northeastern Oman. It is located at c. altitude, and has a population of 35,173 (2003 census). Manah, Oman
Manah ( ar, منح) is a town in the region of Ad Dakhiliyah, in northeastern Oman. As of 2010 it had a population of 7,749. Background The wilayat of Manah is thought to be the first resting place of Malik bin Fahim al Azdi before the Arabs entered Oman when the Marib Dam in what is today Yemen broke. A falaj in Manah still bears his name. In the old town, there are many caves which were said to be hiding places during the war for women and children. There is also a subterranean vault located in one of the ancient houses in Al Fiqin. Legend surrounds the Az al Qadim mosque located within the town: it is said that a 100 kg rock was moved by a visitor to the mosque, which he took with him on his travels south. The next day, upon waking, the man noticed the rock had disappeared, only to be found back in the mosque. The rock still lies in the mosque and has the imprint of a man's foot on it. Adam, Oman
Adam ( ar, أدم, not the same as Adam - the prophet آدم) is a town in the region Ad Dakhiliyah, in northeastern Oman. History The history of the Wilayat of Adam dates back to pre-Islamic times. Adam has several meanings in Arabic but most likely means the fertile land. The most notable places are Harrat Al Ain, Harrat al Bousaid, Harrat Al Hawashim, and Harrat Bani Shiban, where several archeological sites have been found, and Harr Al Jamii, which is more recent. The town is from Muscat on the Salalah road, at the southernmost end of Dakhiliya's border with Sharqiya region. It is the last green oasis before the desert. Here you can see ancient forts, citadels and towers, mosques and deserted traditional souqs.
