Achan (title)
Achan is a title of nobility in Kerala, India. The title was used by Nair feudal lords and were awarded to those Nairs who excelled in martial arts by the Kings of Malabar. The Pillais of Travancore are addressed as "Pillai Achan" by commoners. Famous Achans included the Mangat Achan of Calicut who was the by tradition the Prime Minister of the Zamorin and the Paliath Achan, Prime Minister of Cochin. Achan (biblical Figure)
Achan (; he, עכן), the son of Carmi, a descendant of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, is a figure who appears in the Book of Joshua in the Hebrew Bible in connection with the fall of Jericho and conquest of Ai. His name is given as Achar in . Account in the Book of Joshua According to the narrative of Joshua chapter 7, Achan pillaged an ingot of gold, a quantity of silver, and a "beautiful Babylonian garment" from Jericho, in contravention of Joshua's directive that "all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the Lord: they shall come into the treasury of the Lord" (). The Book of Joshua claims that this act resulted in the Israelites being collectively punished by God, in that they failed in their first attempt to capture Ai, with about 36 Israelites lost (). Achan (1952 Film)
''Achan'' is a 1952 Indian Malayalam-language film, directed by M. R. S. Mani and produced by M. Kunchacko. The film stars Prem Nazir and B. S. Saroja in lead roles. The film had musical score by P. S. Divakar. This was the only film in which veteran actor Sesbastian Kunjukunju Bhagavatahar did a comic role. It is one of the major box office hits of early Malayalam cinema. It will be remembered as the debut of Boban Kunchacko, the maiden venture of XL Productions, and first film of Thiruvananthapuram V. Lakshmi.
