Abi Mohamed Al Morjani Mosque ( ar, جامع أبي Ù…Øمد المرجاني) is a small mosque in the Halfaouine hood, in the north of the Medina of Tunis. Localization It is located in 33 El Halfaouine Street. Etymology The Madarsa Marjania, madrasa Marjania and the mosque got their names from their founder, the sheikh Abou Mohamed Al Morjani ( ar, أبو Ù…Øمد المرجاني), a close friend of the saint Abul Hasan ash-Shadhili. History According to the commemorative plaque at the entrance, it was built in the 13th century. It is known for its minbar that was made in 1493 and where the chahada is engraved. The mosque was restored between 1963 and 1966. Sunni Islam
Sunni Islam () is the largest branch of Islam, followed by 85–90% of the world's Muslims. Its name comes from the word '' Sunnah'', referring to the tradition of Muhammad. The differences between Sunni and Shia Muslims arose from a disagreement over the succession to Muhammad and subsequently acquired broader political significance, as well as theological and juridical dimensions. According to Sunni traditions, Muhammad left no successor and the participants of the Saqifah event appointed Abu Bakr as the next-in-line (the first caliph).
