Abellio London is a bus company operating services in Greater London. A subsidiary of Abellio, it operates services under contract to Transport for London (TfL). Until September 2018, services were operated in Surrey under the Abellio Surrey brand. History The origins of Abellio can be traced back to June 1998 when National Express commenced operating routes C1 and 211 under the Travel London brand. In August 2000, National Express sold the business to Limebourne, who in July 2001 sold out to Connex. In February 2004, National Express repurchased the business. Abellio (also Abelio and Abelionni) was a god worshiped in the Garonne Valley in Gallia Aquitania (now southwest France), known primarily by a number of inscriptions which were discovered in Comminges, in the Pyrenees. He may have been a god of apple trees or the sun. Origin and duties Abellio is accounted for in two Roman inscriptions, one spelling the deity Abellio and the other Abelio. Some scholars have postulated that Abellio is the same name as Apollo, who in Crete and elsewhere was called ''Abelios'' (Greek ), and by the Italians and some Dorians ''Apello'', and that the deity is the same as the Gallic Apollo mentioned by Caesar, and also the same as the Belis or Belenus mentioned by Tertullian and Herodian. Connex Bus UK was a bus company operating services in Greater London. It was a subsidiary of Connex and operated services under contract to Transport for London. History In 1999 Connex successfully secured the contract to operate route 3. It purchased a fleet of Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident 2s and established Beddington Cross garage. In 2001 it commenced operating routes 157 and 196. In July 2001 Connex purchased the Limebourne business, which included a depot at Battersea and routes 156, 211, 344, C1 and C3. Following their parent company losing its Connex South Central and Connex South Eastern rail franchises in 2001 and 2003, the latter for financial mismanagement, Connex decided to withdraw from the United Kingdom market. London Buses Route 427
London Buses route 427 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Uxbridge station and Acton, it is operated by Abellio London. History The conversion of route 207 to articulated buses resulted in the route no longer being able to serve Uxbridge, due to tight turns in the town centre, so the route was split into two sections on 9 April 2005 with the western end between Uxbridge station and Acton renumbered 427, running from Acton (AT) garage using Dennis Trident 2s cascaded from route 207. Transport for London were proposing to build the West London Tram between Shepherd's Bush and Uxbridge, running along Uxbridge Road. The tram would have replaced routes 207, 427 and 607. Transport for London claimed that trams would carry more passengers and be more reliable, but due to the Crossrail project going ahead the plans were scrapped. London Buses Route 207
London Buses route 207 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Hayes By-Pass (Ossie Garvin Roundabout) and White City bus station, it is operated by Abellio London. History Route 207 originates from London United Tramways route 7 which ran between Uxbridge and Shepherd's Bush Green. In 1936, this route was replaced by a trolleybus route 607 which ran until 1960. Route 207 was introduced on 9 November 1960 as part of the trolleybus replacement program stage 8, replacing trolleybus route 607 between Uxbridge and Shepherd's Bush Green, using AEC Routemasters. The route was converted to crew operated Daimler Fleetlines in 1976, reverted to Routemasters in 1980 due to unreliability. One man operation followed in 1987 using MCW Metrobuses. Fulwell Bus Garage is a Transport for London bus garage located in Twickenham in west London. It is north of Fulwell railway station and operates as two halves, with entrances on the A311 Wellington Road and B358 Stanley Road. It is currently operated by Abellio London and London United. History Fulwell Bus Garage was originally built as a tram depot for London United Tramways in 1902. The site formerly formed the southerly part of the Freake Fulwell Park Estate and came on the market following the death of the Dowager Lady Freake in 1901. London United Tramways acquired a 99-year lease of the site in April 1902 for a new tram depot. This was completed in March 1903, just as new tram routes to Hampton Court Palace started operating.
