A Taste For Death (Modesty Blaise)
''A Taste for Death'' is the title of an action-adventure novel by Peter O'Donnell which was first published in 1969, featuring the character Modesty Blaise which O'Donnell had created for a comic strip several years earlier. It was the fourth novel to feature the character. The book was first published in the United Kingdom by Souvenir Press. Plot summary Canadian Dinah Pilgrim (blind since 11) and her sister Judy are vacationing in Panama. They're attacked on a lonely beach by a pair of gunmen, and Judy is killed and Dinah is taken prisoner. Willie Garvin is nearby and he intervenes, killing the two gunmen, and incidentally determining that they work for Gabriel, the villain from the first Modesty Blaise book. Willie and Dinah go into hiding, knowing that Gabriel can mobilise the entire Panamanian underworld to search for Dinah. Peter O'Donnell
Peter O'Donnell (11 April 1920 – 3 May 2010) was an English writer of mysteries and of comic strips, best known as the creator of ''Modesty Blaise'', an action heroine/undercover trouble-shooter. He was also an award-winning gothic historical romance novelist who wrote under the female pseudonym Madeleine Brent, in 1978, his novel ''Merlin's Keep'' won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award by the Romantic Novelists' Association. Biography Born on 11 April 1920 in Lewisham, London, O'Donnell was the son of Bernard O'Donnell, a journalist on the '' Empire News'', and was educated at Catford Central School. He began to write professionally at the age of 16. In 1938 he joined the British Army, and during the war served as an NCO in mobile radio detachment (3 Corps) of Royal Corps of Signals in the 8th Army. Daphne Alexander
Daphne Alexander is a Cypriot/British actress best known for playing Nadia Talianos in the BBC Drama series '' Casualty'' and Modesty Blaise in three BBC radio adaptations. Early life Alexander was born and brought up in Cyprus, living later in both Paris, France and London, England. She studied law at Somerville College, Oxford before training to be an actress at LAMDA. Career Soon after graduating from LAMDA, Alexander was cast in the BBC's long running medical drama Casualty, playing nurse Nadia from February to December 2007. She went on to roles in the HBO/BBC co-production House of Saddam, and the movies The Fourth Kind and The Ghost Writer, working with Roman Polanski on the latter.
