Australian Rules Football In England
In England, Australian rules football is a team and spectator sport with a long history. It is home to the longest running Australian rules fixture outside Australia, the match between Oxford and Cambridge Universities which has been contested annually since 1923. All other current competitions originated in 1989 with the founding of what is now AFL London, the longest running Australian rules football league in Europe. The current governing body, AFL England, was formed in 2012 and expanded the game in 2018 to include the additional regional divisions: AFL Central & Northern England and AFL Southern England. West Coast Eagles
The West Coast Eagles are a professional Australian rules football club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club was founded in 1986 and first competed in 1987 as one of two expansion teams in the Australian Football League (AFL), then known as the Victorian Football League. The club plays its home games at Perth Stadium, Optus Stadium and has its headquarters at Lathlain Park. WA Football wholly owns the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Football Club, the AFL's other Western Australian team. Tom Wills
Thomas Wentworth Wills (19 August 1835 – 2 May 1880) was an Australian sportsman who is credited with being Australia's first cricketer of significance and a founder of Australian rules football. The Euro Cup (formerly known as the EU Cup) is an international Australian rules football tournament played between European national teams. Played under nine-a-side footy rules, the tournament was first held at Chiswick in London, England in 2005, created by Australian Football International. A women's cup has been played between more than two teams since the 2014 tournament. The Euro Cup is an event hosted annually by AFL Europe. Eligibility rules are very strict compared those of other international competitions and are similar to the AFL International Cup. The Atlantic Alliance Cup is an international Australian rules football tournament run every 3 years. The inaugural tournament pitted clubs and national teams from the North Atlantic together. History Like the Australian Football International Cup, the event does not allow ex-patriate Australians to play, and all players must be born in and have played for their respective countries. AFL Europe Championship
The AFL Europe Championship is a triennial international Australian football competition played between European national teams. The European Championship is played in a full traditional 18-a-side format (formerly 16-a-side) unlike the Euro Cup which has a 9-a-side format. It is organised by AFL Europe and held every three years. Players are not paid to participate. Eligibility is similar to the Australian Football International Cup with national team representatives restricted to nationals - citizens who were resident in the country between the ages of 10 and 16. The Australian Football International Cup (also known as the AFL International Cup or simply the IC) was an triennial international tournament in Australian rules football. It was the biggest international tournament in the sport that is open to all nations (it is not called a World Cup as Australia does not compete due to the presence of the professional AFL competition and an abundance of semi-professional leagues). Great Britain Men's National Australian Rules Football Team
The Great Britain men's national Australian rules football team is known as the Great Britain Bulldogs. The team is made up of the best British born players selected from clubs of in England, Wales and Scotland, and occasional appearances from British players playing for clubs in Australia. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the pre-eminent professional sports, professional competition of Australian rules football.
