Finland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1965 with the song "", composed by Toivo Kärki, with lyrics by Reino Helismaa, and performed by Viktor Klimenko. The Finnish participating broadcaster, (Yle), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision The Finnish national selection composed of a semi final and a final. Semi final Ten songs were chosen to the national semi final. Those songs were played on radio in late January and six finalists were chosen by postcard voting. The winner of the postcard voting was "" performed by Katri Helena. Final The Finnish national final took place on February 13 at the YLE TV Studios in Helsinki. The show was hosted by Antti Einiö and Marion Rung. There were two juries, regional juries and a Nordic jury. Should both juries have the same favourite, it would be declared the winner. Viktor Klimenko (singer)
Viktor Savvich Klimenko (born 24 November 1942) is a singer who made himself known as the "Singing Cossack". Biography Klimenko was born in Karelia, to a Russian Kuban Cossack father, Savva Klimenko, and a Russian mother, Olga Glotova. A few years after his birth, his family moved to Finland. There, he became a musician and appeared in several films, mostly appearing as himself. The Eurovision Song Contest 1965 was his first appearance outside of Finland; his song didn't earn any points in the competition. In 1970, Klimenko released the album ''Stenka Rasin'' across Europe. The album, containing Russian songs, went gold in the Finnish market—the first record to do so in Finland. Later, it was certified platinum. This success was followed by a decade of concerts around the world. Klimenko had nine more gold records and one more platinum record. George De Godzinsky
George de Godzinsky (5 July 1914 – 23 May 1994) was a Finnish composer, pianist and conductor. De Godzinsky is known for his Schlager music although he composed music for movies and operettas. De Godzinsky was born in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire. He was of Polish, Czech, Georgian and Romanian ancestry through his father, Franciszek de Godzinsky, and of Dutch and Swiss descent through his mother, Maria Othmar-Neuscheller. George de Godzinsky's father was a Saint Petersburg-based civil servant and businessman who had strong ties to customers in Finland. During the Russian revolution the family escaped to Finland. Juha Vainio
Juha Harri "Junnu" Vainio, also known as Juha "Watt" Vainio (10 May 1938 in Kotka, Finland – 29 October 1990, Gryon, Switzerland) was a Finnish lyricist, singer, composer and teacher. With the lyrics or music to over 2,400 songs to his name, Vainio is one of Finland's most prolific lyricists along with Sauvo Puhtila, Reino Helismaa and Vexi Salmi. Vainio enjoyed a short professional career as a teacher at Kymenranta Primary School. Vainio began writing songs in the early 1960s and continued until his death. Apart from his home town Kotka, he lived for several years in Helsinki and Espoo. In his last years Vainio lived in Gryon, Switzerland, where he died of a heart attack in October 1990. Jussi Raittinen
Jussi Raittinen (15 September 1943 – 13 February 2024) was a Finnish musician known for his solo career and, in addition to the band The Boys, as well as the lyricist-composer and arranger of many songs. He was the brother of musician Eero Raittinen. Career Jussi Raittinen's younger brother Eero Raittinen is also a musician and an original member of The Boys. Their parents were Paavo Raittinen, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Finland, and Rakel Jotuni, who was the niece of the writer Maria Jotuni. Eero Raittinen
Eero Raittinen (born 6 October 1944, Helsinki) is a Finnish pop, rock and blues singer and drummer. Starting in 1960, Raittinen performed in various bands, initially alongside his older brother Jussi Raittinen, but has mostly had a solo career spanning over sixty years. Among his better-known recordings are the Finnish cover versions of the Swedish ''Mälarö kyrka'' (1968) and the Italian '' Che sarà'' (1971). Marion Rung (born 7 December 1945) is a Finland, Finnish pop singer. She is known for having represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1962 and 1973. Her 1962 Eurovision song placed 7th, and in 1973, she managed to bring Finland's second best result in the contest until 2006 by finishing in 6th place. Rauno Väinämö Lehtinen (7 April 1932 – 1 May 2006) was a Finnish conductor and composer. He composed the 1960s hit " Letkis" which was based on a folk-dance. "Letkis" was recorded in over 92 countries.
