The province of Attica () was one of the provinces of Attica, Greece. It consisted of parts of the East Attica and West Attica prefectures. Its territory corresponded with that of the current municipalities Acharnes, Dionysos, Kropia, Lavreotiki, Marathon, Markopoulo Mesogaias, Oropos, Paiania, Pallini (except the municipal unit Gerakas), Rafina-Pikermi, Saronikos, Spata-Artemida and Fyli Fyli (, ), formerly known as Chasia (), is a town and a municipality in the northwestern part of Attica, Greece. The provinces of Greece (, "eparchy") were sub-divisions of some the country's prefectures of Greece, prefectures. From 1887, the provinces were abolished as actual administrative units, but were retained for some state services, especially financial and educational services, as well as for electoral purposes. Before the Second World War, there were 139 provinces, and after the war, with the addition of the Dodecanese, Dodecanese Islands, their number grew to 148. According to the Article 7 of the Code of Prefectural Self-Government (Presidential Decree 30/1996), the provinces constituted a "particular administrative district" within the wider "administrative district" of the prefectures. Oropos
Oropos () is a small town and a municipality in East Attica, Greece. The village of Skala Oropou, within the bounds of the municipality, was the site an important ancient Greek city, Oropus, and the famous nearby sanctuary of Amphiaraos is still visible today. Name The town is known as ''Oropos'' in Greek and has been called ''Ropό'' in Arvantic. Geography The municipality Oropos stretches between the Parnitha mountains and the South Euboean Gulf, opposite Eretria (on the island Euboea). Fyli (, ), formerly known as Chasia (), is a town and a municipality in the northwestern part of Attica, Greece. It lies in the northeastern corner of the West Attica regional unit, and is a suburb of Athens. The seat of the municipality is the town Ano Liosia. Within bounds of the town is the ancient Athenian fortress of Phyle. Gerakas
Gerakas () is a town, a suburb of Athens and a former municipality in East Attica, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pallini, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. In antiquity Gerakas constituted the Athenian ''mesogeia'' deme of Gargettus, in the tribe of Aigeis, according to the administrative model of Cleisthenes. Today, it is a rapidly developing city of the northern mesogea and the eastern gate to the Athens basin. It is known as the birthplace of the famous philosopher Epicurus. The city is set at a significant place at the junction of Ymittos and Penteli foothills. Pallini () is a suburban town in Greater Athens Area and a municipality in East Attica, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town Gerakas. It is the seat of administration of the East Attica regional unit. Geography Pallini is situated in the eastern part of the Athens conurbation, at about 150 m elevation. It lies in a plain between the mountains Penteliko and Hymettus. It is 2 km east of Gerakas and 14 km east of Athens city centre. Markopoulo Mesogaias () is a town and a municipality in East Attica, Greece. The municipality has an area of . Geography The municipality Markopoulo Mesogaias is situated in the Mesogaia plain, in the eastern part of the Attica peninsula, and touches the Aegean Sea coast in the east, where the port town Porto Rafti is located.
