Atasi
Atasi Corporation was an American -inch hard disk drive manufacturer company founded in California in 1981. Atasi began selling products the following year in 1982 and was one of the first -inch hard disk drive manufacturers to develop and utilize closed-loop technologies such as Voice coil actuator, voice-coil actuators. Despite being considered a pioneer within its industry and having widespread adoption of its products in the high-end microcomputer market, the company had financial problems throughout its lifetime. Atasi went through failed agreements, bankruptcy, and was acquired by Tandon Corporation, Tandon then Western Digital in 1987. The company briefly reemerged with the name of Atasi Technology in 1990. Atasi Technology sold Apple Inc., Apple compatible external hard disk drives and rebranded Priam Corporation, Priam drives until 1992. Tandon Corporation
The Tandon Corporation was an American disk drive and Personal computer, PC manufacturer founded in 1975 (incorporated in 1976 as Tandon Magnetics Corp.) by Sirjang Lal Tandon, a former mechanical engineer. The company originally produced magnetic recording read/write heads for the then-burgeoning Floppy disk, floppy-drive market. Due to the labor-intensive nature of the product, production was carried out in low-wage India where production costs were lower. This was the key to the company's competitiveness. In the late 1970s, Tandon developed direct equivalents to Shugart Associates, Shugart floppy drives, and is credited with the invention of DS/DD (double-sided, double-density) versions which became its primary product in the early 1980s. In 1979, Tandon introduced the TM100 diskette drive, a 5.25" unit with 40 track support as opposed to the Shugart SA-400's 35 tracks.
