Ashok Subron
Ashok Kumar Subron (born 13 November 1963) is a Mauritian trade unionist turned politician and leader of Rezistans ek Alternativ. Early life Upon his birth at the Moka, Moka Hospital on 13 November 1963, Ashok Subron was registered by 2 female hospital workers who jointly brought him up at their respective homes. He studied at the Montagne-Ory Primary School, and then attended St Andrews Secondary School. His interest in politics started during the 1975 Mauritian student protests and he supported Dev Virahsawmy's Mouvement Militant Mauricien Socialiste Progressiste, MMMSP. Constituencies Of Mauritius
Constituencies of Mauritius are the electoral boundaries within the Republic of Mauritius. They are also commonly referred to as ''Circonscriptions'' amongst the locals. The country follows the Westminster system and elects 60 members of parliament for a term of 5 years. There are in all 21 Constituencies in the republic, each of them returning 3 members with the exception of Constituency n°21, which returns only 2 members. The Constitution stipulates that there shall be 20 constituencies and one created specially for the Rodrigues island. Those electoral boundaries are considered to be the main pillars for elections as they allow members of parliament to be elected and thus to form the government. 1987 Mauritian General Election
General elections were held in Mauritius on 30 August 1987. The result was a victory for the Alliance, composed of the Labour Party, the Mauritian Socialist Movement and the Mauritian Social Democrat Party, which won 44 of the 70 seats. The voting system involved twenty constituencies on Mauritius, which each elected three members. Two seats were elected by residents of Rodrigues, and up to eight seats were filled by the " best losers". Voter turnout was 85%. Results All 24 seats won by the Union were taken by the MMM. Of the 40 seats won by the MSM–Labour Party alliance, 31 were won by the MSM (26 constituency, five best loser) and nine by the Labour Party (all constituency seats). State House, Mauritius
The State House () is the official residence of the President of Mauritius. Originally Le Réduit, it was built as a fortress for defence against attack by Pierre Félix Barthelemy David in 1749. The mansion is in Réduit, Moka, near of the University of Mauritius and the end of the Plaines Wilhems District. It’s incumbent is Dharam Gokhool. It used to serve as the residence for former governors of Mauritius, but now it is the residence of the President. It is built on of land. The château has a garden where a multitude of flowers grow, as well as exotic and native trees. The château is open to the public two days a year, in October and March. Prithvirajsing (Pradeep) Roopun GCSK (; born 24 May 1959) is a Mauritian politician who served as the seventh president of Mauritius from 2019 to 2024. Early life, education, career and family life Prithvirajsing Roopun was born in an Indian Hindu family and grew up in Morcellement St. Jean, a suburb of Quatre Bornes. He attended secondary school at New Eton College in Rose Hill and worked as a mathematics teacher at Eden College. He has been qualified and admitted to practice as an attorney at law since 1986. Roopun is a holder of a master's degree in international business law (LLM) from the University of Central Lancashire. The , also known as Alliance for Change, is a centre-left coalition of parties in Mauritius. General elections were held in Mauritius on 10 November 2024. The election was called after the government reached a deal with the United Kingdom to end the Chagos Archipelago dispute. Shortly before the election, a wire-tapping scandal surfaced. The government responded by implementing a social media ban that was to last until after the election but was instead lifted a day later following public outcry. Pravind Jugnauth became prime minister in 2017, succeeding his father Anerood Jugnauth. Jack Bizlall (born 23 July 1946) is a trade unionist, teacher and former elected member of parliament (MP) of Mauritius. He is also known as Jacques Brizlall. Early life and career Jack Bizlall grew up in Médine. His first name was given to him in honour of his father's friend who was killed in action as a soldier during World War II. Although he wanted to become a priest he trained to become a primary school teacher. He taught at St. François school (Baie-du-Cap) and Notre Dame de la Paix school. He left the teaching profession in 1976 as he was frustrated by the poor objectives of the educational system. General elections were held in Mauritius on 11 September 2000 to elect the members of the National Assembly. The opposition Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) party decisively won the elections in coalition with the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM), defeating the governing Mauritian Labour Party (MLP) led coalition.
