Aram D'Abro
Aram d'Abro was an Armenian-American science popularizer and author, known for his book ''The Evolution of Scientific Thought from Newton to Einstein''. There is little biographical information on Aram d'Abro. Several sources erroneously give his first name as "Abraham". A border crossing document from St. Albans, Vermont, dated September 24, 1910, gives his name as "Aram D'Abro", age 24, nationality Turkey, birthplace Paris, occupation professor of coastal engineering, marital status single. According to information from the Van Nostrand Company, Aram d'Abro was educated at Eton College, studied mathematics in Paris, and resided in New York City; he paid the costs of publication of his 2-volume work ''The Decline of Mechanism in Modern Physics'' (1939, Van Nostrand). David Van Nostrand
David Van Nostrand (December 5, 1811 – June 14, 1886) was a New York City publisher. Biography David Van Nostrand was born in New York City on December 5, 1811. He was educated at Union Hall, Jamaica, New York, and in 1826 entered the publishing house of John P. Haven, who gave him an interest in the firm when he became of age. In 1834 he formed a partnership with William Dwight, but the financial crisis of 1837 led to its dissolution. Van Nostrand then accepted an appointment as clerk of accounts and disbursements under Captain John G. Barnard, at that time in charge of the defensive works of Louisiana and Texas, with headquarters at New Orleans. While so engaged he devoted attention to the study of scientific and military affairs, and on his return to New York City he began the importation of military books for officers of the U.S. Army, afterward receiving orders from private individuals and from academic institutions for foreign books of science. Boghos Yousefian
Boghos Bey Yusufian (1775–1844) was an Armenian merchant and customs official. He was Egypt's Minister of Commerce, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and secretary of Muhammad Ali Pasha. Biography His parents were Marta and Hovsep, who was an Armenian merchant from Kayseri. They later settled in Smyrna and had Boghos as their first child. He then assisted his uncle Arakel Abroyan, the then Dragoman of the British Consulate in İzmir. Arakel Abroyan passed on the post of dragoman to Boghos. Boghos Yusufian then gained his commercial expertise by leading a trading center based in the city of Trieste. In the 1790s, Boghos Bey Yusufian became customs officer of Muhammad Murad Bey in the city of Rosette.
