Apollon Pontus F.C.
Apollon Kalamarias F.C. () is a Greek football club based in Kalamaria, a suburb of Thessaloniki. It was founded in 1926. History Formation and early years 1926–1960 Apollon Kalamarias was founded on 24 January 1926, in Kalamaria, by Pontian refugees. The original idea was to establish a club to disseminate the rich musical tradition of the Pontians, where members would gather to play mandolin and guitar. Thus, the head of Apollo, the god of music in ancient Greek mythology, was chosen as the emblem of the group. Later followed the founding of theater and sports departments. The colors chosen to represent the club were symbolic for the Pontian history: red for the blood of the people who lost their lives during the expulsion of the Pontians and black for the mourning. Emmanuel Majopoulos, the painter in the profession, was appointed first president. Kalamaria Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kalamaria, a district of Thessaloniki, in Greece. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Apollon Kalamarias. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS; , TAS) is an international body established in 1984 to settle disputes related to sport through arbitration. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland, and its courts are located in New York City, Sydney, and Lausanne. Temporary courts are established in current Olympic host cities. The International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) was established simultaneously, and a single president presides over both bodies. Macedonia Football Clubs Association ( ''Énosi Podosferikón Somatíon Makedonías'' or Ε.Π.Σ.Μ.) is an association responsible for administering football in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki. It was formed in 1924 as ''Football Union of Macedonia and Thrace'' ( ''Podosferikí Énosi Makedonías Thrákis'') and it administrated football in the regions of West Macedonia, Central Macedonia and East Macedonia and Thrace. Since 1935 its area of responsibility was restricted within the borders of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki. Founding members of the union were Aris, Iraklis and Megas Alexandros. The 2016–17 Gamma Ethniki was the 34th season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. It started on 11 September 2016 and ended at May 2017. 61 teams were separated into four groups, according to geographical criteria. The Football League () was the second highest professional football league in Greece since its inception in 1962 as ''Beta Ethniki'' and until 2019. It then served as a third tier after the creation of the Super League 2 as the new second tier and it was eventually abolished in 2021 when the 2021–22 Super League 2 went from a 12 team to a 36 team league, absorbing most of the clubs from the Football League. The Super League Greece 2 () is the second division of professional Association football, football in Greece, serving as a feeder league to the top level Super League Greece, Super League 1.
