Anselmo Lorecchio
Anselmo Lorecchio (Arbëresh language, Arbërisht: Anselmo Lorekio; November 3, 1843 - March 22, 1924) was an Italian lawyer, journalist, politician, poet and writer of Albanians, Albanian descent, founder of the ''La Nazione Albanese (newspaper), La Nazione Albanese'' newspaper, and author of several literary works in praise of the independence of Albania. Life Anselmo Lorecchio was born on November 3, 1843, in Pallagorio, a small Arbëreshë people, Arbëreshë town in Calabria, Italy, which he would keep strong ties with. Obtained a degree in Law December 21, 1868, at the University of Naples Federico II, Royal University of Naples, became Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal of Naples in 1869, also worked at Banco di Napoli in 1870. Pallagorio ( sq, Puhëriu, Calabrese: ''Paragùriu '') is a ''comune'' and town in the province of Crotone, in Calabria, Italy. History The village and the surrounding area have been inhabited since the Neolithic; there are numerous caves scattered in the territory, including the so-called "Cave of St. Maurice" of palaeontological interest. In the second millennium BC, the area was settled by the Oenotrian- Italic population of the ''Chone'', who left traces of their presence both in toponyms and with devotional objects found throughout the area. Archaeological remains from the early 1st millennium are found all over the area surrounding the town. Corigliano Calabro
Corigliano Calabro is a town and a ''frazione'' of Corigliano-Rossano located in the province of Cosenza, c. 40 km northeast of the city of Cosenza, in Calabria, southern Italy. Geography It is situated near the mouth of a river of the same name, and contains an aqueduct. On an eminence overlooking the town is a feudal castle with massive towers and a deep trench. In the ''comune'' are the ruins of the ancient city of Thurii, a former bishopric which remains a Latin titular see as Thurio. Nearby is Sibari, the site of the ancient city of Sybaris. Gaspër Jakova Mërturi
Gaspër Jakova Mërturi (1870-1941) was a figure involved in the Albanian National Awakening and a talented writer. Mërturi was from northern Albania who had been defrocked as Catholic priest and was an ex-Jesuit. Italy recruited individuals from the Albanian Catholic clergy to work for them and he became employed as an instructor at the Collegio of Sant'Adriano and later as a publicist editing works such as newspapers in Albanian. Mërturi along with Italo-Albanian Anselmo Lorecchio during June 1904 published an Italian language daily newspaper ''Agenzia Balcanica ed Italiana'' that focused on politics, finance and commercial information. Its aims were "to enlighten the European public opinion" about the rights and necessary reforms for the vilayets of Üsküb, Shkodër, Monastir, Yanina, and Salonica. ''La Stampa'' (meaning ''The Press'' in English) is an Italian daily newspaper published in Turin, Italy. It is distributed in Italy and other European nations. It is one of the oldest newspapers in Italy. History and profile The paper was founded by Vittorio Bersezio, a journalist and novelist, in February 1867 with the name ''Gazzetta Piemontese''. ''il Resto del Carlino'' is an Italian newspaper based in Bologna, and is one of the oldest newspapers in Italy. Its rather evocative name means "the change you get from a ''carlino''", which the smallest part of the Papal ''baiocco'' (no longer legal tender in united Italy but a word still used in Bologna to refer to 10 cent coins): a sheet of local news was given out in shops to make up for the change owing after buying a cigar (which was worth 8 cents). Verona
Verona ( , ; vec, Verona or ) is a city on the Adige River in Veneto, Italy, with 258,031 inhabitants. It is one of the seven provincial capitals of the region. Ernest Koliqi
Ernest Koliqi (20 May 190315 January 1975) was an Albanian journalist, politician, translator, teacher and writer. Biography Born in Shkodra, where he also attended his first lessons at the local Jesuit College. In 1918 his father send him to study in the jesuit directed "Cesare Arici" college, in Brescia; and afterwards in Bergamo. Then at the University of Padua, and became knowledgeable in Albanian folk history. He began to write under pseudonyms, such as Hilushi, Hilush Vilza and Borizani. In the 1920s and 1930s Koliqi was the founder of leading magazines in Albania, such as the ''Illyria'' magazine, and others, which covered geography and culture in the country. He also was Minister of Education at the time of the Albanian Kingdom during World War II, when he sent two hundred teachers to establish Albanian schools in Kosovo.
