Anse () is a commune in the Rhône department in eastern France. It is situated on the river Saône, approx. 7 km south of Villefranche-sur-Saône (near Lyon). Councils of Anse Several medieval councils were held in this French town. That of 994 decreed, among other disciplinary measures, abstinence from servile labour after three o'clock ( None) on Saturday, i.e. the observance of the vigil of Sunday. The council of 1025 was held for the purpose of settling a conflict between the monks of Cluny Abbey and the Bishop of Mâcon, who complained that, though their monastery was situated in his diocese, the monks had obtained ordination from the Archbishop of Vienne. William Anderson "Devil Anse" or “Uncle Anse” Hatfield (; September 9, 1839 – January 6, 1921) was the patriarch of the West Virginian Hatfield family who led the family during the Hatfield–McCoy feud. Biography Hatfield was born September 9, 1839, in western Virginia (now Logan, West Virginia), the son of Ephraim and Nancy (Vance) Hatfield. His nickname "Devil Anse" has a variety of supposed origins. Among these are that it was given to him by his mother; that he was named it by Randolph McCoy, patriarch of the McCoy family; that he earned the nickname for his bravery during battle in the American Civil War; or because it contrasted to his good-tempered cousin, Anderson "Preacher Anse" Hatfield. Anselm Winn Moore (September 22, 1917 – October 29, 1993) was an American professional baseball player whose career spanned 1939–1942 and 1946–1953 and included a full season and 51 games played in Major League Baseball for the 1946 Detroit Tigers. An outfielder, Moore batted left-handed, threw right-handed, stood tall and weighed . Moore was born in 1917 at Delhi, Louisiana. His professional baseball career began in 1939 with the Alexandria Aces of Alexandria, Louisiana. He played for Alexandria in 1939 and 1940 and the Beaumont Exporters of the Texas League in 1941 and 1942. He compiled a .293 batting average in 148 games for Beaumont in 1942. He missed the 1943, 1944, and 1945 seasons while serving in the European Theater of Operations for the United States Army during World War II.
