Anik (satellite)
The Anik satellites are a series of geostationary communications satellites launched for Telesat Canada for television, voice and data in Canada and other parts of the world, from 1972 through 2013. Some of the later satellites in the series remain operational in orbit, while others have been retired to a graveyard orbit. The naming of the satellite was determined by a national contest, and was won by Julie-Frances Czapla of Saint-Léonard, Québec. In Inuktitut, ''Anik'' means "brother". Anik Bissonnette
Anik Bissonnette (born February 9, 1962) is a Canadian ballet dancer. She began her professional ballet career with the Ballet de Montreal Eddy Toussaint in the 1980s and became a principal dancer with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in 1990. Career Training Bissonnette began her ballet training at the age of ten at the studios of Ludmilla Chiriaeff, the founder of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. She discontinued her studies after six months. She then pursued jazz and dance at the École de Danse Eddy Toussaint. Toussaint later offered her a scholarship on the condition that she take classical ballet classes, to which she agreed. Anik Jean (born April 11, 1977) is a Canadian pop and rock singer, actress, director, and screenwriter. She is most noted for her 2005 album ''Le Trashy Saloon'', which was a shortlisted Juno Award finalist for Francophone Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2006. Career From a young age, Anik Jean has been drawn to performing. Attending a David Bowie concert with her mother when she was 11 years old, Anik decided she wanted to be a singer-songwriter. She learned how to play guitar and piano and embarked on a trip that would take her from her native Gaspésie to Los Angeles before eventually returning to Montreal. ''Space Cases'' is a Canadian science fiction television series that aired on Nickelodeon for two seasons. Created by Peter David and Bill Mumy, it premiered on March 2, 1996, and ended on January 27, 1997, with reruns until 1998.
