Angeles Abbey Memorial Park
Angeles Abbey Memorial Park, also known as the Angeles Abbey Cemetery, is a historic cemetery in Compton, California. It was built in 1923 and is known for its elaborate main building. It has over 35,000 plots filled and barely has any room for additional burials, meaning that the cemetery's finances are declining. Vandalism is also prevalent. It has also been pictured as a Middle Eastern or South Asian locale in media such as the film ''The Untouchables'' and the TV series '' JAG''. History The cemetery was built in 1923, by George Clegg, a shipbuilder. He wanted to build a monument that would catch the eye easily, so he hired two architects to go to India and design a building for him. In the end, he found an empty field in Compton to make a crypt and announced that it could hold over 1,000 graves. Word spread quickly, and many people quickly purchased a plot. Compton is a city located in the Gateway Cities region of southern Los Angeles County, California, United States, situated south of downtown Los Angeles. Roland Drew (born Walter Goss; August 4, 1900 – March 17, 1988) was an American actor. Biography Born in 1900 in New York City, Drew made his first film in 1926 and continued to work until the 1940s. Noted primarily as Dolores del Río's leading man in ''Ramona'' in 1928, another of his prominent film roles was as Dr. Robinson in ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' a decade later. His other appearances include ''From Nine to Nine'', '' Hitler, Beast of Berlin'', '' Bermuda Mystery'', and '' Two O'Clock Courage''. He also gained fame as Prince Barin in the 1940 film serial ''Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe''. On Broadway, Drew portrayed Jackson Macy in ''Shooting Star'' (1933) and Lieutenant Roget in ''Paths of Glory'' (1935). He retired from acting and became a dressmaker. Donald "Shorty" Jerome Shea (September 18, 1933 – August 26, 1969) was an American stuntman and actor who was murdered in 1969. The location of his body was discovered in 1977, eight years after his death. Manson Family leader Charles Manson and disciples Clem Grogan and Bruce M. Davis were eventually convicted of murdering Shea. Tex Watson was a possible participant in the murder, but was never charged. Life Donald Shea was born in Massachusetts on September 18, 1933. According to Shea's autopsy report, he served in the United States Air Force (s/n AF 11 270 704) from December 1954 until June 1956. He was around tall. Shea moved to California to pursue a career in acting, mostly finding work as a stuntman.
