Angel, was an American telecommunications company supplying interactive voice response, call center technology, and voice applications to businesses over the internet using the software as a service model from 1999 to 2013. It was acquired in 2013 by Genesys (company), Genesys and rebranded as Genesys Premier Edition. In April 2021, ''Angel Studios'', a streaming media, media company, purchased the domain ''angel.com'' from Genesys for $2 million to build a video streaming television, streaming service. History Angel was developed in 1997 by Michael J. Saylor, the CEO of MicroStrategy, as DSS Telecaster and DSS Broadcaster, which were then merged into Angel.com. Originally it was planned as a telecaster but became a provider of hosted interactive voice response; the firm signed its first small business customers at the end of 2001. Genesys Cloud Services, Inc. (Genesys), formerly Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories, Inc., is an American software company that sells customer experience (CX) and call center technology to mid-sized and large businesses. It sells both cloud-based and hybrid cloud software. The company was founded in 1990 and was acquired by investment firms Permira Funds and Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV) in February 2012. History Genesys was founded by Gregory Shenkman and Alec Miloslavsky in October 1990. The company's original seed funding was $150,000 in loans from the founders' families. The company completed its initial public offering (IPO) in June 1997 and was listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol GCTI.
