Andrew Richard Matthew Garton (born 19 May 1962) is an Australian filmmaker, musician and lecturer in media and communications. Biography Andrew Richard Matthew Garton was born on 19 May 1962 in Guildford. His grandmother, Jelena aka Elena (30 May 1903 – 1972), had fled the Russian Revolution post-1917 and worked as a nurse in former Yugoslavia. Elena met and married Andre Garton, a Red Army guard, they had two sons, Alex and Igor (born 14 January 1920). The family initially relocated to Austria; Igor, his mother and other family members migrated to Australia on USAT ''General Haan'' in October 1949. Since the mid-1970s Garton participated in numerous independent and community media initiatives in Australia and South East Asia: from radio and public access video in his teens to computer networking in the late 1980s and 1990s with Pegasus Networks. Bruce Charles "Bill" Mollison (4 May 1928 – 24 September 2016) was an Australian researcher, author, scientist, teacher and biologist. In 1981, he was awarded the Right Livelihood Award "for developing and promoting the theory and practice of permaculture". Permaculture (from "permanent agriculture")Tortorello, Michael (27 July 2011) is an integrated system of ecological and environmental design which Mollison co-developed with David Holmgren and which they envisioned together as a perennial and sustainable form of agriculture. Permaculture
Permaculture is an approach to land management and settlement design that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems. It includes a set of design principles derived using Systems theory, whole-systems thinking. It applies these principles in fields such as regenerative agriculture, town planning, rewilding (conservation biology), rewilding, and community resilience. The term was coined in 1978 by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, who formulated the concept in opposition to modern industrialized methods, instead adopting a more traditional or "natural" approach to agriculture. Icehouse are an Australian Rock music, rock band, formed in Sydney in 1977 as Flowers. Initially known in their homeland for their Pub rock (Australia), pub rock style, the band later achieved mainstream success playing New wave music, new wave and synth-pop music and attained Top 10 singles chart success locally and in both Europe and the U.S. The mainstay of both Flowers and Icehouse has been Iva Davies (singer-songwriter, record producer, guitar, bass, keyboards, oboe) supplying additional musicians as required. The name "Icehouse", adopted in 1981, comes from an old, cold flat Davies lived in and the strange building across the road populated by itinerant people. Private Lives were a British new wave band, active in the early to mid-1980s, who are best known for their 1984 charting single, "Living in a World (Turned Upside Down)". Biography The band formed in 1980. At its core was vocalist and songwriter John Adams, accompanied by Rick Lane on keyboards and John Read on bass. The band's debut single, "Where Do I Go", was released by WEA on 1 August 1980. The song was written by Adams and Lane and produced by Adams and David Moore.
