Biography Rabbi Zaks was born on October 30, 1926, in Jerusalem to Rabbi Chaim Eliyahu Zalman and Esther Leah Zaks. His mother was the daughter of Rabbi Mordechai Friedman and the sister of Rabbi Mendel Friedman, son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld. Rabbi Zaks was a student of Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer in Etz Chaim Yeshiva. In 1947, he traveled to Bnei Brak where he studied at the Slabodka yeshiva under Rabbi Isaac Sher. In 1952 he was engaged to be married with Rabbi Sher's eldest granddaughter, the daughter of his son-in-law, Rabbi Mordechai Shulman, ''rosh yeshiva'' of Slabodka. Slabodka Yeshiva (Bnei Brak)
Slabodka Yeshiva is a branch of the Hebron Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, Israel, founded by Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Sher. A yeshiva (; he, ישיבה, lit. "sitting"; pl. , ''yeshivot'' or ''yeshivos'') is a Jewish institution that focuses on the study of traditional religious texts, primarily the Talmud and Torah study. Study is usually done through daily ''shiurim'' (lectures or classes) and in study pairs called '' ḥavrutas'' (Aramaic for "friendship" or "companionship"). The yeshiva has approximately 500 students; despite the Lithuanian affiliation of the yeshiva, many of the students are chassidic. Additionally, there are quite a few ultra-conservative followers of the Chazon Ish. Isser Zalman Meltzer
Isser Zalman Meltzer ( he, איסר זלמן מלצר) (February 6, 1870 – November 17, 1953),Isser Zalman Meltzer "Even HaEzel" (1870 - 1953) was a famous Lithuanian Jewish and Belarusian Orthodox rabbi, rosh yeshiva and posek. He is also known as the "Even HaEzel"—the title of his commentary on Rambam's ''Mishneh Torah''. Early life Rabbi Meltzer was born on 5 Adar 5630 (February 6, 1870) in the city of Mir, in the Minsk Governorate of the Russian Empire (present-day Republic of Belarus) to Rabbi Baruch Peretz and Miriam Reisel Meltzer. From the age of 10, he studied with Rabbi Yom-Tov Lipman, the rabbi of the city, and at the Mir Yeshiva. In 1884, at the age of 14, he began studying at the Volozhin yeshiva under the Netziv and Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik, where he remained for seven years. Yitzchok Zilberstein ( he, יצחק זילברשטיין, also spelled Silberstein) (born 1934) is a prominent Orthodox rabbi, posek (Jewish legal authority) and expert in medical ethics. He is the ''av beis din'' of the Ramat Elchanan neighborhood of Bnei Brak, the Rosh Kollel of Kollel Bais David in Holon, and the Rav of Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak. His opinion is frequently sought and quoted on all matters of halakha for the Israeli Lithuanian yeshiva community. Biography Zilberstein was born in Bendin, Poland to Rabbi Dovid Yosef and Rachel Zilberstein. The family emigrated to Palestine while he was a young boy, and he studied in the Etz Chaim Yeshiva in Jerusalem under Rabbi Aryeh Levin. Baruch Dov Povarsky
Rabbi Baruch Dov Povarsky, often referred to as Rabbi Berel Povarsky, is the rosh yeshiva of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, Israel, alongside Rabbi Gershon Edelstein. Biography Rabbi Povarsky was born in 1931 in Kletsk, the son of Rabbi Dovid and Chaya Tzipporah Povarsky. When he was three months old, the family moved to Baranovich where R' Dovid became a teacher in Yeshiva Ohel Torah-Baranovich and joined its affiliated ''kollel.'' During this period, Baruch Dov learned in the city's local ''cheder''. Klausenburg (Hasidic Dynasty)
Klausenburg, also known as Sanz-Klausenburg, is a Hasidic dynasty that originated in the Transylvanian city of Cluj-Napoca (german: Klausenburg, hu, Kolozsvár), today in Romania. At the behest of Rabbi Yekusiel Yehudah Halberstam, Klausenburger Rebbe from 1927–1994, the movement was split into two separate movements after his death, headed by his two sons. Stroke
Stroke (also known as a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) or brain attack) is a medical condition in which poor blood flow to the brain causes cell death. There are two main types of stroke: ischemic, due to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic, due to bleeding. Both cause parts of the brain to stop functioning properly. Signs and symptoms of stroke may include an inability to move or feel on one side of the body, problems understanding or speaking, dizziness, or loss of vision to one side. Signs and symptoms often appear soon after the stroke has occurred. If symptoms last less than one or two hours, the stroke is a transient ischemic attack (TIA), also called a mini-stroke. Hemorrhagic stroke may also be associated with a severe headache. The symptoms of stroke can be permanent. Long-term complications may include pneumonia and loss of bladder control. Shiur (, , lit. ''amount'', pl. shiurim ) is a lecture on any Torah topic, such as Gemara, Mishnah, Halakha (Jewish law), Tanakh (Bible), etc. History The Hebrew term שיעור ("designated amount") came to refer to a portion of Judaic text arranged for study on a particular occasion, such as a yartzeit, the dedication of a new home, or the evening of a holiday, and then to a public reading and explanation of the same. The act of teaching and studying these texts at the designated time was known in Yiddish as ''schiur lernen''. These shiurim would be attended by all classes of people; it was traditional for learned attendees to engage the lecturer in continuous discussion, and for the larger lay audience to listen intently. Concurrently, the word came to refer to the daily study quotient for students of a yeshiva, and then to the lecture given thereon. Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Sher was the ''rosh yeshiva'' of the Slabodka Yeshiva in Lithuania and Bnei Brak. He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel, the Alter of Slabodka. Early life Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Sher was born in Halusk, Belarus c. 1875 to R' Yosef Chaim and Esther Leah Sher. After completing ''cheder'', he and other students began attending a class given by Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz, who served as the city's rabbi at that time. He then went to study in the Volozhin Yeshiva under Rabbi Refael Shapiro. After hearing a lecture from the Alter of Slabodka in Halusk, Yitzchak Isaac was inspired and joined his yeshiva in Slabodka, Yeshiva Knesses Yisrael, where he studied with Avraham Grodzinski (later a ''mashgiach ruchani'' in the yeshiva).
