American Modern Recordings (AMR) is an American classical music record label focusing on contemporary classical music, and in particular, music by living American composers. It was established by Robert Paterson in 2006, and is a subsidiary of Lumiere Records. It is based in New York, New York and is distributed through Naxos of America, a division of Naxos Records. History AMR was founded in 2008 with the mission of producing and promoting albums of contemporary classical music by living composers, with an emphasis on American composers. AMR is a subsidiary of Lumiere Records, Inc., a commercial classical label that was founded a few years earlier by Victoria Paterson. Robert Paterson (composer)
Robert Paterson (born April 29, 1970) is an American composer of contemporary classical music, as well as a conductor and percussionist. His catalog includes over 100 compositions. He has been called a "modern day master" and is primarily known for his colorful orchestral works, large body of chamber music and clear vocal writing in his operas, choral works, vocal chamber works and song cycles. Early years Paterson was born on the West Side of Buffalo, New York. He is the son of Tony Paterson, an award-winning sculptor who was a Professor of Sculpture at the University at Buffalo, and Eleanor Paterson, a painter and bilingual education director at Erie Community College who received her Ph.D. in bilingual education from the University at Buffalo. American Modern Ensemble
The American Modern Ensemble is a contemporary classical music ensemble based in the United States in New York City with the goal of premiering, performing and recording and commissioning the widest possible repertoire written by American composers. The group's focus is to celebrate and showcase American music and especially works written by living composers. AME is also dedicated to education and outreach programs that expose communities to American music, and particularly to new music written by living composers.
