Amelia Farrugia
Amelia Farrugia (often misspelled as Ferrugia; born 28 July 1970) is an Australian soprano opera singer of Maltese descent. She won awards in the Sydney Eisteddfod and the 1996 Australian Singing Competition, and the 1995 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in New York where she covered leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera in 2012 and 2015. She was a finalist at the Neue Stimmen competition in Germany in 2001. Born in Sydney, Farrugia, attended Loreto Kirribilli and then studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating in 1992. After winning awards in such events as the Sydney Eisteddfod and the Australian Singing Competition, she started performing with Opera Australia, first performing lead roles in 1994. She earned a nomination for the 2006 ARIA Award for Aria Best Classical Album for her solo album ''Joie de vivre!''. Giles Havergal
Giles Pollock Havergal CBE (born 9 June 1938, in Edinburgh) is a theatre director and actor, opera stage director, teacher, and adaptor. He was artistic director of Glasgow's Citizens Theatre from 1969 until he stepped down in 2003, one of the triumvirate of directors at the theatre, alongside Philip Prowse and Robert David MacDonald. Their input and influence within the theatre landscape of Glasgow - and the city itself - were significant, inspiring and supporting several notable actors and designers. Lindy Hume (born 25 August 1961) is an Australian opera and festival director, who has worked throughout Australia and internationally. Early life Hume was born in the Sydney suburb of Paddington and grew up in Glebe and Annandale. Her father taught primary school and also worked as a film censor. Her mother was a psychologist at the University of Sydney. Career Hume was Artistic Director of West Australian Opera (1992–1996), OzOpera and Victorian State Opera (1996–2001), and Director of the Perth International Arts Festival (2004–2007). Cunégonde is a fictional character in Voltaire's 1759 novel ''Candide''. She is the title character's aristocratic cousin and love interest. At the beginning of the story, the protagonist Candide is chased away from his uncle's home after he is caught kissing and fondling Cunégonde. Shortly afterwards, Cunégonde's family is attacked by a band of marauding soldiers, and she is taken prisoner. However, Cunégonde soon becomes the mistress of two wealthy Portuguese men who decide to share her between them.
