Amal Peiris
Amal Peiris ( si, අමල් පීරිස් ; born 7 June 1985) is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and leg-break bowler who plays for Sebastianites Cricket and Athletic Club. He was born in Ratnapura. Peiris made his cricketing debut in 2000, playing six matches in the ACC Under-15s Trophy, alongside such names as Upul Tharanga and Farveez Maharoof. Sri Lanka finished third in the table, behind finalists India and Pakistan. Later in the same season, he played two games in the Costcutter Under-15s World Challenge, including one match against the tournament runners-up Pakistan. Ratnapura
Ratnapura (; ) ("City of Gems" in Sinhala and Tamil) is a major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of Sabaragamuwa Province, as well as the Ratnapura District, and is a traditional centre for the Sri Lankan gem trade. Leg Spin
Leg spin is a type of spin bowling in cricket. A leg spinner bowls right-arm with a wrist spin action. The leg spinner's normal delivery causes the ball to spin from right to left (from the bowler's perspective) when the ball bounces on the pitch. For a right-handed batsman, that is away from the leg side, and this is where it gets the name leg break. Leg spinners bowl mostly leg breaks, varying them by adjusting the line and length, and amount of side spin versus topspin of the deliveries. Leg spinners also typically use variations of flight by sometimes looping the ball in the air, allowing any cross-breeze and the aerodynamic effects of the spinning ball to cause the ball to dip and drift before bouncing and spinning or "turning", sharply. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). In cricket, batting is the act or skill of hitting the ball with a bat to score runs and prevent the loss of one's wicket. Bowling, in cricket, is the action of propelling the ball toward the wicket defended by a batter. A player skilled at bowling is called a ''bowler''; a bowler who is also a competent batter is known as an all-rounder. Sebastianites Cricket and Athletic Club are a first-class cricket team based in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Their home ground is De Soysa Stadium. History The club's name derives from its close association with St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa, whose students are known as Sebastianites. The club played several first-class and List A matches at the College ground. Warushavithana Upul Tharanga (born 2 February 1985), commonly known as Upul Tharanga ( si, උපුල් තරංග), is a former professional Sri Lankan cricketer, and a former limited over captain who played for all formats of the game. He is a left-handed opening batsman and occasional wicket-keeper. On 23 February 2021, Upul announced his retirement from international cricket. Mohamed Farveez Maharoof ( ta, பர்வீஸ் மஹூஹ்ஃப், si, ෆර්වීස් මහරූෆ්: born 7 September 1984), or Farveez Maharoof, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, who played in Tests and ODIs. He first made his impression in the 2004 U19 World Cup in which he captained the Sri Lankan team. Burgher Recreation Club
Burgher Recreation Club is a first-class cricket and hockey club based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. History The club was founded on 26 December 1896 known as the Bambalapitya Recreation Club, with membership restricted to the Burgher community. The first president was A. W. Raffel, the hon. secretary was O. H. Poppenback and the club captain was V. O. Wright. The club won its first cricket match on 9 November 1901.
