''Almost Summer '' is the first album release by the Mike Love fronted band Celebration. The album was released in support of the motion picture of the same name. The album included the band's only charting single "Almost Summer" co-written by Love's Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and Brian Wilson. Celebration (1970s Band)
Celebration was a 1970s American rock music, rock band, fronted by the Beach Boys, Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love as well as members of the band King Harvest. Celebration released three albums before they broke up in 1979. Background During the late 1970s, The Beach Boys, Beach Boys singer Mike Love began to work on outside projects. His first major work was with a new band, Celebration. The band featured members of the short lived band King Harvest as well as future and current Beach Boys live backing members. The band's first project was a soundtrack for the film ''Almost Summer''. The lead single of the name was written by Love and his Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and Brian Wilson and also featured backing vocals from Brian Wilson. ''Celebration '' is the self-titled second album release by the Mike Love fronted band Celebration. The album was released in February 1979 and mainly features song writing from Mike Love and Ron Altbach. The album also contains a Brian Wilson co-write called "How’s About A Little Bit". "Starbaby" and "Gettin' Hungry" were released as the lead singles for album. "Gettin' Hungry" was a cover of a Beach Boys track from 1967. The album was only released on LP and is currently out of print. It has also long been difficult to find as it is estimated only 5,000 copies were pressed and released. Mike Love
Michael Edward Love (born March 15, 1941) is an American singer and songwriter who is one of the vocalists of the Beach Boys, of which he was an original member alongside his cousins Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, and Carl Wilson and their friend Al Jardine. He is the band's only constant member, appearing on all its albums, and following the death of Brian Wilson, he became the last-surviving familial co-founder. Al Jardine
Alan Charles Jardine (born September 3, 1942) is an American musician who co-founded the Beach Boys. He is best known as the band's rhythm guitarist, background vocalist, and for occasionally singing lead vocals on singles such as number-one hit "Help Me, Rhonda" (1965), "Then I Kissed Her" (1965), "Cotton Fields#The Beach Boys cover, Cottonfields" (1970), and a cover of the Del-Vikings' "Come Go with Me" (1981). His song "Lady Lynda" was also a UK top 10 hit for the group in 1979. Summer In The City (song)
"Summer in the City" is a song by the Canadian-American folk-rock band the Lovin' Spoonful. Written by John Sebastian, Mark Sebastian and Steve Boone, the song was released as a non-album single in July 1966 and was included on the album '' Hums of the Lovin' Spoonful'' later that year. The single was the Lovin' Spoonful's fifth to break the top ten in the United States, and the only one by the group to reach number one. A departure from the band's lighter sound, the recording features a harder rock style. The lyrics differ from most songs about the summer by lamenting the heat, contrasting the unpleasant warmth and noise of the daytime with the relief offered by the cool night, which allows for the nightlife to begin. High Inergy was an American R&B and soul girl group who found fame on Motown Records in the late 1970s. They are best known for the hit song, " You Can't Turn Me Off (In the Middle of Turning Me On)". History High Inergy started in 1976 when the four founding singers were discovered by Gwen Gordy Fuqua during a Bicentennial show in Pasadena, California. Charles Lloyd (born March 15, 1938) is an American jazz musician and composer. He primarily plays tenor saxophone and flute and occasionally other reed instruments, including alto saxophone and the Hungarian tárogató. Lloyd's primary band since 2007 has been a quartet including pianist Jason Moran, acoustic bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Eric Harland. Early life and education Lloyd was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 13, 1938. He grew up in Memphis, where he was exposed to blues, gospel, and jazz music. He is of African, Cherokee, Mongolian, and Irish ancestry.
