Tanzanian First Division League
The Tanzanian Championship (formerly, Second Division League and "Ligi Daraja la Kwanza" in Swahili) is the second tier of league football in Tanzania. The league is made up of sixteen teams that play thirty rounds, home and away.The league was formed in 1930. The top two teams at the end of the season get promoted to the Tanzania Premier League, while the third and fourth go into a playoff with two last-placed teams not eligible for automatic relegation. The last two teams are relegated to the first division, while the last four teams go into a playoff. Mwanza
Mwanza City, also known as Rock City to the residents, is a port city and capital of Mwanza Region on the southern shore of Lake Victoria in north-western Tanzania. With an urban population of 1,182,000 in 2021, it is Tanzania's second largest city, after Dar es Salaam. It is also the second largest city in the Lake Victoria basin after Kampala, Uganda and ahead of Kisumu, Kenya at least in population size. Within the East African community, Mwanza city is the fifth largest city after Dar, Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kampala. It is slightly ahead of Kigali, Kisumu, and Bujumbura in the population of city proper limits. However, in terms of infrastructure, Kigali and Kisumu cities are way ahead of Mwanza. Singida is a town in central Tanzania. The town is the location of the regional headquarters of Singida Region as well as the district headquarters of Singida Urban District. The region and district are named after the town. Transport Road links Paved Trunk road T3 from Morogoro to the Rwandan border passes through the town. Paved trunk road T14 connects Singida with Babati in Manyara Region. The distance from Singida to Dodoma is 252 km, to Shinyanga 300 km, to Arusha 334 km and to Mwanza 467 km. Tanzanian Premier League
The Tanzania Mainland Premier League () is the top-level professional football league in Tanzania and is administered by the Tanzania Football Federation. History The league was first organised in 1921 in Dar es Salaam. By 1929, it had six participants. In the 1930s, it included street teams such as Arab Sports (Kariakoo) and New Strong Team (Kisutu), made up mainly of Arabs and Africans respectively. The Sudanese community also had its own team, though it included other ethnicities as well. It joined the league in 1941. Other contemporary teams included the Khalsas, an exclusively Sikh team, and the Ilala Staff, a team with Ilalan residents. In 1942, clubs from public institutions such as the Government School, Post Office, Railways SC, King's African Rifles SC, Police SC and Medical Department started to dominate the league.
