Allen Fairhall
Sir Allen Fairhall KBE FRSA (24 November 19093 November 2006) was an Australian politician who served in the House of Representatives from 1949 to 1969, representing the Liberal Party. He was a government minister under four prime ministers, most notably as Minister for Defence from 1966 to 1969. Early life Fairhall was born at Morpeth, New South Wales, and attended East Maitland Boys' High School. After school he was apprenticed as an electrical fitter at the Walsh Island Dockyard in Newcastle, while attending Newcastle Technical College. At the same time he developed an interest in radio and gained an amateur radio licence in 1928 (callsign VK2KB), which he held for more than 50 yea He was able to convince the then Postmaster-General's Department that Newcastle needed a second commercial radio station. Frank O'Keefe
Frank Lionel O'Keefe, AM (6 October 1912 – 21 April 1989) was an Australian politician. Born in Gunnedah, New South Wales, he attended state schools before becoming a farm machinery distributor and oil merchant. He was mayor of Gunnedah Shire Council for 18 years, and also served on Namoi Valley County Council. In 1961 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Liverpool Plains, representing the Country Party; he transferred to Upper Hunter in 1962, which he held until 1969. KOFM (Newcastle)
Triple M Newcastle (call sign: 2KKO) is an Australian radio station, licensed to, and serving Newcastle and surrounds. It broadcasts at 102.9 megahertz on the FM band from its studios in Newcastle. It is owned by Southern Cross Austereo. History The station commenced operations on 1 August 1931 as 2KO, based in the Newcastle suburb of KOtara, hence the call-sign. Founded by Allen Fairhall, 2KO was licensed to The Newcastle Broadcasting Company. The station broadcast on 1415 kHz with a transmission strength of 25 watts. The station launched from the backyard of a resident's home, with the licensee's dining room being the only studio the station had at the time.
