All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship 1976
The 1976 All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship for the leading clubs in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by St Paul’s from Kilkenny, who defeated Athenry from Galway in the final, played at Nowlan Park. Arrangements The championship was organised on the traditional provincial system used in Gaelic Games since the 1880s, with Ahane and Creggan winning the championships of the other two provinces. Carmel Doyle and Ursula Grace scored the vital goals for St Paul’s against Ahane in the semi-final. Athenry travelled by air for their semi-final against Creggan. The Final Carmel Doyle doubled on an Angela Downey free for St Pauls’ second goal just before half time to lead 2-2 to 1-1 at half-time and they overcome Athenry’s spirited start to the second half to win. St Paul’s Camogie Club
St Paul's is a former camogie club based in Kilkenny city, Ireland, one of the most successful in the history of the game. It won the All Ireland club championship in 1968, 1969, 1970, 1974, 1976, 1987, 1988, and 1989. Noreen, or BID 590, was an off-line one-time tape cipher machine of British origin. Usage As well as being used by the United Kingdom, Noreen was used by Canada. It was widely used in diplomatic stations. Bridie Martin-McGarry from Kilkenny is a former camogie player selected on the camogie team of the century in 2004, and winner of nine All Ireland medals. Background and early career She first played Camogie when she went to Presentation Secondary School, Kilkenny where she won an All Ireland Senior Colleges title in 1969. She played with Thornbrack and Lisdowney before winning several county championships and three club All Ireland medals with St Paul’s. Inter-county She first played with Kilkenny senior team in 1972 and went on to win nine All Ireland medals in what was the county’s most successful period in the game to date. She was captain in 1985 and again in 1987. She won seven National League medals with Kilkenny and eight Gael Linn Cup inter-provincial medals with Leinster.
