Alfred Dunhill Championship
The Alfred Dunhill Championship is a men's professional golf tournament which is played in South Africa. It is part of the Southern African Sunshine Tour and is one of several events in South Africa that are co-sanctioned by the more prestigious European Tour. History The tournament was founded in 2000, but its origins lie in Dunhill's sponsorship of the South African PGA Championship between 1995 and 1999. Following the 1999 Alfred Dunhill PGA Championship, the company decided to discontinue their association with the South African PGA, and create their own stand alone tournament. The first event was held in January 2000 at the Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg, and replaced the South African PGA Championship on the European Tour calendar. In 2004, the tournament was rescheduled to December, resulting in two events being staged that year; one in January and one in December. Malalane
Malalane, alternatively rendered Malelane, is a farming town in Mpumalanga, South Africa situated on the N4 national highway. The farms in the region produce sugarcane, subtropical fruit and winter vegetables. The town was proclaimed in 1949 after which it was named. The origin of the name is disputed but was corrupted from the Swazi. Either the expression "eMlalani" which means ''place of the palms'', or the expression "lala" which means ''to sleep'' is accepted origins of the name. The town started as the first rest-stop between Lourenço Marques and Pretoria. The 2025 European Tour, titled as the 2025 DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, is the 54th season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972. It is the fourth season of the tour under a title sponsorship agreement with DP World that was announced in November 2021. Changes for 2025 The initial part of the schedule was announced in August 2024, with the "Opening Swing" events confirmed. Tournaments in Australia and Southern Africa were confirmed, with the return of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, which had not been part of the 2024 season due to scheduling changes. The 2022 European Tour, titled as the 2022 DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 51st season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972. DP World title sponsorship In November 2021, it was announced that the tour had signed a title sponsorship agreement with DP World, being renamed as the DP World Tour. } Adrián Otaegui Jaúregui (born 21 November 1992) is a Spanish-Emirati professional golfer from San Sebastián who plays on the European Tour where he has won five times. He also played in the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series. Amateur career Otaegui had a successful amateur career which included winning the 2010 Boys Amateur Championship at Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club where he beat Max Rottluff 4 & 3 in the final. Professional career Otaegui turned professional in July 2011. From 2011 to 2013 he played on the Challenge Tour. He had three runner-up finishes in 2013, at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge, the Rolex Trophy and the Kazakhstan Open, finishing seventh on the rankings to earn status to play on the 2014 European Tour. Ockert Strydom (born 8 January 1985) is a South African professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and Sunshine Tour. He claimed his maiden European Tour win at the 2022 Alfred Dunhill Championship. Professional career Strydom won the 2019 Vodacom Origins of Golf at Sishen that was part of the 2019–20 Sunshine Tour. Lodewicus Theodorus "Louis" Oosthuizen (; born 1982) is a South African professional golfer who won the 2010 Open Championship. He has finished runner-up in all four major championships: the 2012 Masters Tournament, the 2015 and 2021 U.S. Open, the 2015 Open Championship, and the PGA Championship in 2017 and 2021.
