Alex Honnold
Alex Honnold (born August 17, 1985) is an American rock climber best known for his Free solo climbing, free solo ascents of Big wall climbing, big walls. Honnold rose to worldwide fame in June 2017 when he became the first person to free solo a full route on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park (via the 2,900-foot route ''Freerider (climb), Freerider'' at Grade (climbing)#American YDS grade, 5.13a, the List of grade milestones in rock climbing#Free-soloed, first-ever big wall free solo ascent at that grade), a climb described in ''The New York Times'' as "one of the great athletic feats of any kind, ever." Free Solo
Free solo climbing, or free soloing, is a form of rock climbing where the climber (or ''free soloist'') climbs Solo climbing, solo (or alone) without Climbing rope, ropes or other Rock climbing equipment#Protection devices, protective equipment, using only their climbing shoes and their liquid chalk, climbing chalk. David Stuart Roberts (May 29, 1943 – August 20, 2021) was an American climber, mountaineer, college professor, and author of books and articles about climbing and the history of the American Southwest. He was particularly noted for his books ''The Mountain of My Fear'' and ''Deborah: A Wilderness Narrative'', chronicling major ascents in Alaska in the 1960s, which had a major impact on the form of mountaineering literature. Enchainment
In mountaineering and climbing, enchainment (an anglicisation of the French language, French word , meaning "linking") is climbing two or more mountains or climbing routes on a mountain in one outing (often over the course of a day or a series of days). Rock climbing two or more routes in this manner are also called a "link up" in the United States. Tommy Caldwell (born August 11, 1978) is an American rock climber who has set records in sport climbing, traditional climbing, and in big-wall climbing. Caldwell made the first free ascents of several major routes on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.
