Alan Shayne
Alan Shayne (born November 21, 1925) is an American casting director, actor, and producer. Early life and career Shayne was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 21, 1925. He started acting in theatre in the 1940s, where he encountered a young Marlon Brando in acting school. He appeared in the Broadway plays ''Antony and Cleopatra'' (1947–1948) and ''The Madwoman of Chaillot'' (1948–1950). In 1958, he was in the multiple Tony-nominated Broadway musical ''Jamaica''. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, he appeared in several television series such as ''The Philco Television Playhouse'', ''Man Against Crime'', and ''Kraft Television Theatre''. In 1953, he portrayed Bernardo in the TV film Hamlet. Having been encouraged by Michael Shurtleff, Shayne became a casting director in the 1960s. Michael Shurtleff
Michael Shurtleff (July 3, 1920, in Oak Park, Illinois – January 28, 2007, in Los Angeles, California) was a major force in casting on Broadway during the 1960s and 1970s. He wrote ''Audition'', a book for actors on the audition process. He also wrote numerous one-act and full-length plays. Early life Charles Gordon Shurtleff was born in Oak Park, Illinois and attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin and the Yale School of Drama, where he received his MFA in playwriting in 1952. He moved to New York City after graduation and changed his first name to Michael. He has two brothers, John and Roger. Career Shurtleff was the major casting director for producer David Merrick. During the casting process he would bring in to audition for the play's director such new names as Elliott Gould, Barbra Streisand, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, Bette Midler and Jerry Orbach. ''Ford Theatre'', spelled ''Ford Theater'' for the original radio version and known, in full, as ''The Ford Television Theatre'' for the TV version, is a radio and television anthology series broadcast in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s. 28th Primetime Emmy Awards
The 28th Primetime Emmy Awards were handed out on May 17, 1976. The ceremony was hosted by John Denver and Mary Tyler Moore. Winners are listed in bold with series' networks in parentheses. The top show of the night was ''Mary Tyler Moore'' which won its second straight Outstanding Comedy Series award, and five major awards overall.
