Al Stewart
Alastair Ian Stewart (born 5 September 1945) is a British singer-songwriter and folk-rock musician who rose to prominence as part of the British folk revival in the 1960s and 1970s. He developed a unique style of combining folk-rock songs with tales of characters and events from history. Stewart has released 16 studio and four live albums since his debut album '' Bed-Sitter Images'' in 1967, and continues to tour extensively in the US, Canada, Europe, and the UK. He is best known for his 1976 hit single " Year of the Cat", from the platinum album of the same name. Though '' Year of the Cat'' and its 1978 platinum follow-up '' Time Passages'' brought Stewart his biggest worldwide commercial successes, earlier albums such as '' Past, Present and Future'' from 1973 are often seen as better examples of his intimate brand of historical folk-rock, a style to which he returned in later albums. "Year of the Cat" is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter Al Stewart, released as a single in July 1976 in the UK (October 1976 in the US). The song is the title track of his 1976 album ''Year of the Cat (album), Year of the Cat'', and was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, in January 1976 by engineer Alan Parsons. The song peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 for the consecutive weeks of March 5 and 12, 1977. ''Year of the Cat'' is the seventh studio album by Al Stewart, released in 1976. It was produced and engineered by Alan Parsons. Its sales helped by the hit single " Year of the Cat", co-written by Peter Wood and described by AllMusic as "one of those 'mysterious woman' songs", the album was a top five hit in the United States. The other single from the album was "On the Border". Stewart wrote "Lord Grenville" about the Elizabethan sailor and explorer Sir Richard Grenville (1542–1591). Stewart had all of the music and orchestration written and completely recorded before he even had a title for any of the songs. In a Canadian radio interview he stated that he has done this for six of his albums, and he often writes four different sets of lyrics for each song. Dave Nachmanoff
David Nachmanoff (born July 23, 1964) is an American folk singer-songwriter and the sideman to Al Stewart. At the age of ten (circa 1975) he played with Elizabeth Cotten, garnering a positive review in '' The Washington Star''. Biography Nachmanoff is originally from a Jewish family from Northern Virginia and currently makes his home in Davis, California. He is the brother of screenwriter- director Jeffrey Nachmanoff. He earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California, Davis. He has several solo releases and other collaborations available, and in 2009, appears with Al Stewart on "Uncorked - Al Stewart Live with Dave Nachmanoff". Tim Renwick
Timothy John Pearson Renwick (born 7 August 1949) is an English guitarist. He is best known for his association with Al Stewart in his early career and for his long-standing role as lead guitarist for the Sutherland Brothers & Quiver. His single "Dark Island" peaked at number 80 in Australia in 1980. He also performed with Pink Floyd on their 1987-89 and 1994 tours, as well as accompanying the band during their Live 8 performance in 2005. Career Renwick was born and grew up in Cambridge. Anthony Francis Keigwin Monkman (9 June 1949 – 12 May 2023) was an English rock, classical and film score composer, and a founding member of both the progressive rock band Curved Air and the classical/rock fusion band Sky. Life and career Early years Francis Monkman was the son of Kenneth Monkman, an authority on the writer Laurence Sterne and Vita née Duncombe Mann. Richard Christopher Wakeman (born 18 May 1949) is an English keyboardist and composer best known as a member of the progressive rock band Yes across five tenures between 1971 and 2004, and for his prolific solo career. AllMusic describes Wakeman as a "classically trained keyboardist extraordinaire who plied his trade with Yes and developed his own brand of live spectacular in a solo act." Richard Thompson (born 3 April 1949) is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Thompson first gained prominence in the late 1960s as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the folk rock group Fairport Convention, which he had co-founded in 1967. After departing the group in 1971, Thompson released his debut solo album ''Henry the Human Fly'' in 1972. Alan Parsons (born 20 December 1948) is an English audio engineer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. Parsons was the sound engineer on albums including the Beatles' ''Abbey Road'' (1969) and '' Let It Be'' (1970), Pink Floyd's ''The Dark Side of the Moon'' (1973), and the eponymous debut album by Ambrosia in 1975. Peter White (born 20 September 1954) is an English musician and composer who plays guitar, piano, accordion and harmonica. He is known for his 20-year collaboration with Al Stewart.
