M. Adhyatma (25 May 1932 – 2 December 1999) was an Indonesian public health official who served as the country's minister of health between 1988 and 1993. Early life and education Adhyatma received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health in 1974. Health Minister As minister, he prioritized addressing the high cost of drugs and mandated the use of generic drugs at government-operated healthcare facilities. His policies reduced drug costs by 10–15 percent and were met with resistance by the pharmaceutical industry. The Ministry of Health (, officially abbreviated as Kemenkes) is a government ministry which organize public health affairs within the Indonesian government. History Ministry of Health was formed on 19 August 1945. The ministry is responsible for public health affairs in Indonesia. The ministry is led by a minister who is responsible to the president and part of the cabinet. Commonly, the minister usually came from medical doctor, however some of them were military doctor. Since 2009, the government has been required to allocate 5% of state budget for health sector. However, the mandatory 5% state budget for health sector was achieved in 2019. In 2001, the ministry was merged with Department of Social Affairs () into Department of Health and Social Welfare, however the merger was short-lived and both departments were reestablished. Sujudi
Sujudi (9 September 193023 June 2007) was an Indonesian physician and academic who became the country's Minister of Health from 1993 until 1998. Previously, he worked in the University of Indonesia as a lecturer, with his highest office being the university's rector from 1986 until 1994. Early life and education Sujudi was born on 9 September 1930 in Bogor as the seventh of twelve children. His father, Martamihardja, worked as a field officer in the Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Indonesian People's Bank. Sujudi began his studies at the Taman Siswa elementary school in Bogor. After finishing his primary education there in 1944, Sujudi continued his education at Bogor's junior high school and high school. He completed his secondary education in 1950.
