Abraham Mar Stephanos is the Metropolitan of UK- Europe-Africa Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. Early life Abraham Stephanos was born to Mr. K. A. Thomas and Mrs. Annamma on 11 June 1969. Metropolitan He was elected as the Metropolitan candidate on 25 February 2022 at the Malankara Association held at Kolenchery. Abraham Stephanos belongs to the parish of St. George Orthodox Church (Valiyapalli), Mylapra under Thumpamon diocese. He completed his primary education from Seventh Day Adventist School, Pathanamthitta (1974-78), and Marthoma High School (1978-84), following which he completed Pre-Degree course (1984-86) as well as degree in Mathematics (1986-89) from Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta . The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) also known as the Indian Orthodox Church (IOC) or simply as the Malankara Church, is an Autocephaly, autocephalous Oriental Orthodox Churches, Oriental Orthodox church headquartered in #Catholicate, Devalokam, near Kottayam, India. UK, Europe And Africa Malankara Orthodox Diocese
The Diocese of UK, Europe and Africa is one of the 32 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church with its headquarters in London. History The roots of this parish can be traced back to the 1930s. Abu Alexios of the Bethany monastery (later Bishop Mar Theodosius) was the first priest of the church ever to visit the UK. Canon John Douglas and others formed an association called 'The Friends of the Syrian Church' to render help to the ancient church in India by offering higher theological training; Abu Alexios of the Bethany monastery (later Bishop Mar Theodosius) was the first candidate chosen. He participated in the Jubilee celebrations of the Community of Resurrection, Mirfield and made connections with several religious communities in UK. Baselios Marthoma Mathews III (born 12 February 1949) is the present Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan of the Malankara Church, serving as its primate. He was enthroned as the 22nd Malankara Metropolitan on 14 October 2021 and as the 9th Catholicos on 15 October 2021 at St. Peter and St. Paul's Church, Parumala, succeeding Baselios Marthoma Paulose II. Mylapra
Mylapra is a small town in Pathanamthitta district in the Indian state of Kerala. It comes under the Mylapra Panchayath. The town is situated on the way to the famous Hindu pilgrim center, Sabarimala. The Main Eastern Highway (Punalur–Pathanamthitta–Muvattupuzha Road/SH-08) passes through Mylapra. Etymology The word ''mylapra'' is derived from two Malayalam words ''myle'' (a peacock) and ''appuram'' (the other side). It is believed that a hunter used a sword to kill a peacock but the peacock escaped narrowly and fell on one side and the sword hit the other. This was the birth of the names of two places, viz Mylapra and Vettipuram. "Myle (peacock) appuram (that side), Vett (cut) ipuram (this side).
