Aaron Kennedy
Aaron Kennedy is a Canadian sports journalist and politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the 2024 general election. He defeated Blaine Higgs in the riding of Quispamsis, who had been serving in that riding since 2010 and as Premier of New Brunswick since 2018. Kennedy previously worked for the town of Quispamsis, where in 2011 he began serving as the town's communications manager. In July 2021, Kennedy began serving as the interim chief administrative officer; his term finished in August 2024 after his role was succeeded by a permanent hire and he pursued the Liberal nomination for the 2024 election. Early life and career Aaron Kennedy was born in 1969 or 1970 and is originally from Oromocto, New Brunswick. He graduated from the Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where he studied radio broadcasting. Oromocto
Oromocto is a Canadian town in Sunbury County, New Brunswick. The town is located on the west bank of the Saint John River at the mouth of the Oromocto River, approximately southeast of Fredericton. The town's name is derived from the name of the Oromocto River; "oromocto" is thought to have originated from the Maliseet word ''welamukotuk'' which means "deep water". It appears on early maps as Ramouctou and La Rivière du Kamouctou (Freneuse seigneurial grant, 1684). It is the administrative headquarters of the Oromocto First Nation band government and the site of Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, which dominates its economy and modern history. The Daily Gleaner
''The Daily Gleaner'' is a morning daily newspaper serving the city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and the upper Saint John River Valley. The paper was printed Monday through Saturday, until dropping to Tuesday through Saturday in 2022 and announced it would only publish the printed copy three days a week starting March 2023. Daily news coverage continues online. It began operating in 1880. In April 2006, the paper switched from afternoon to morning publication. The offices of the ''Daily Gleaner'' are located on Alison Boulevard on the city's south side. K.C. Irving bought it in 1968 from Michael Wardell, who had owned it since 1950. In 2022, Brunswick News was acquired by Postmedia. The paper has its roots in the earlier paper ''The Gleaner and Northumberland Schediasma'', started in 1829. Upset (competition)
An upset occurs in a competition, frequently in electoral politics or sports, when the party popularly expected to win (the "favorite") is defeated by (or, in the case of sports, ties with) an underdog whom the majority expects to lose, defying the conventional wisdom. It is often used in reference to beating the betting odds in sports, or beating the opinion polls in electoral politics. Brenda Fowlie
Brenda Olive Fowlie (born May 15, 1953) is a journalist and politician in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. She was formerly a member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick and a member of the cabinet. A resident of Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Fowlie was first elected to the legislature in the 1999 election and was re-elected in 2003 by a very narrow margin. She was originally declared the winner in 2003 by a margin of 16 votes and a recount delayed the swearing in of the cabinet and the first session of the legislature. The results of the election were so close that Fowlie's uncertain victory meant the difference between a majority government for her Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick and a tie in seats with the PCs and the opposition New Brunswick Liberal Association. CTV Atlantic (formerly known as the Atlantic Television System, or ATV) is a system of four television stations in the Maritimes, owned and operated by the CTV Television Network, a division of Bell Media.
