Gustav Aarestrup
Gustav Nicolay Aarestrup (1 January 1916 – 15 November 2005) was a Norwegian jurist and businessperson. He was both chief executive officer and chair of Storebrand. Early life and World War II He was born in Steinkjer as a son of vicar Joachim Homboe Aarestrup (1866–1940) and his wife Anna Sophie Wiig (1872–1944). The family moved to Sagene two years later. He finished his secondary education in 1933, took Oslo Commerce School in 1934 and took the cand.jur. degree in 1938. He worked as a junior solicitor in Mysen until 1940, then briefly as a police officer in Oslo before being deputy judge in Farsund from 1940 to 1941. In July 1941, one year after the German invasion and occupation of Norway, Aarestrup was arrested for an attempt to flee the country. He was first imprisoned in Kristiansand's Arkivet, and later sat in Møllergata 19 from 8 to 22 August and in Grini concentration camp until mid-October 1941. Emil Aarestrup
Carl Ludvig Emil Aarestrup (4 December 1800 in Copenhagen – 21 July 1856 in Odense) was a Danish physician and poet, who had just one single volume of poetry published throughout his lifetime, yet this gave him a lasting place in Danish literature, due to the originality of the poems, as well as their persistent exploration of erotic themes, somewhat uncommon to the day. Life and career Aarestrup was born in Store Kongensgade in Copenhagen, in a period designated by the Napoleonic wars, which Denmark had been dragged into, and which left the country officially bankrupt. Marie Aarestrup
Marie Helene Aarestrup (1826–1919) was a Norwegian artist who specialized in genre and portrait painting. A fine example of her work is a portrait of the Swedish singer Kristina Nilsson which she exhibited in 1865 at the Paris Salon. In later life she painted animals, especially horses. Biography Born in Flekkefjord in south-western Norway on 27 May 1826, Marie Aarestrup was the daughter of the jurist Peter Nicolai Aarestrup and Sara Haasted. After studying drawing at Hans Reusch's school in Bergen, she continued her training in Copenhagen (1843-44). From 1859 to 1863, she studied under Jean-Baptiste-Ange Tissier in Paris, after which she spent six months in Düsseldorf as a student of Benjamin Vautier. Nicolay Aarestrup
Nicolay Aarestrup (22 November 1898 – 1983) was a Norwegian businessperson. He was born in Molde as a son of physician Peter Nicolay Aarestrup and Charlotte Louise Friis-Petersen. On October 28, 1924 he married Helene Julie Konow. They had two daughters, Else Helene and Sidsel. In 1954 he married merchant's daughter Ragnhild Sæther. He took Bergen Commerce School in 1916, was an accountant from 1926 to 1945 before becoming chief executive officer of Vesta and Hygea in 1945. He remained so until 1968. From 1954 to 1968 he was also the chief executive of Investa, a company he co-founded. During his time, Vesta notably merged with Bergens Brand and Æolus in 1962.
