AUDL
The Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) is a professional ultimate league in North America. The league comprises 24 teams divided between the South, Central, East, and West divisions. Each UFA season has 12 regular season games which run from April to July. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the top three teams from every division advance to the playoffs, a single elimination tournament that culminates in a final four style showcase known as the UFA Championship Weekend, which is contested in late August over two days. The UFA was founded in 2012 as the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL), before renaming itself the Ultimate Frisbee Association for the 2024 season. The New York Empire hold the most championships with three titles. The reigning league champions are the Minnesota Wind Chill, who defeated the Carolina Flyers by a score of 17-16 in the 2024 UFA Championship Game. Cincinnati Revolution
The Cincinnati Revolution were a professional ultimate disc team based in Cincinnati, Ohio who competed in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL), now known as the Ultimate Frisbee Association, from 2012 to 2016. The Revolution played in the AUDL's Western Division in 2012 and in the Midwestern/Midwest Division from 2013 until their dissolution in 2016. They played their home games as the Bluegrass Revolution in 2012 at Henry Clay High School's Jack Bell Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky, and as the Cincinnati Revolution from 2013 to 2016 at the University of Cincinnati's Sheakley Athletics Center. The Philadelphia Spinners were a professional ultimate team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were founded in 2012 by Katrel Kelly and David Fitzgerald as a team in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL), but then moved to Major League Ultimate (MLU) in 2013. They played in the MLU until the league was suspended in 2016. The team played in various stadiums throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. Carolina Flyers
The Carolina Flyers (formerly the Raleigh Flyers) are a professional ultimate team based in Durham, North Carolina. The Flyers compete in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) as a member of the South Division. The team was founded in 2015. From 2015 through 2018, the Flyers played most of their home games at Crusader Stadium on the campus of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, with some home games at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. In 2019, the team has played home games at WakeMed Soccer Park, and other venues. After the 2020 AUDL season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team moved their home games to Durham County Stadium beginning in 2021. The Salt Lake Shred are a professional ultimate team based in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The Shred compete in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) as a member of the West Division. The team plays its home games at Zions Bank Stadium, a soccer stadium in Herriman, Utah. Franchise history 2022 season The Shred's inaugural season was 2022, when the UFA was known as the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). With the addition of the Shred alongside two other teams, the Colorado Summit and the Portland Nitro, the AUDL reorganized ahead of the 2022 season. The Colorado Summit are a professional ultimate team based in the Denver metropolitan area. The Summit compete in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) as a member of the West Division. The team plays its home games at the Colorado School of Mines' Marv Kay Stadium. Franchise history 2022 season The Summit played their first season in 2022, when the UFA was known as the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). Dallas Roughnecks
The Dallas Legion, formerly the Dallas Roughnecks, were a professional ultimate team that competed in the South Division of the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA). Founded in 2015, the team played their first year in the 2016 AUDL season, wherein they won the championship title. History In June 2014, it was reported that American Ultimate Disc League franchise rights had been sold for Dallas, which would come to the league in 2016. Over a year later, it was revealed that Ultimate insider Jim Gerencser had bought the rights and named the team the Roughnecks. Gerencser proceeded to build one of the best expansion teams in AUDL history, including signing Beau Kittredge from the established San Jose Spiders. New York Empire (AUDL)
The New York Empire are a professional ultimate team based in the New York metropolitan area. The Empire compete in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) as a member of the East Division. The team played its first season in 2013. The Empire won their first title in 2019, followed by titles in 2022 and 2023. History At the beginning of the Empire's history in late 2012, the team almost did not come to fruition, as part-owner Cullen Shaw almost took his Ultimate ownership interest to Major League Ultimate because of a pending AUDL lawsuit against the Connecticut Constitution and Rhode Island Rampage. However, Shaw kept with the AUDL and the Empire because of lower ownership costs and more abilities as a team owner. Jacksonville Cannons
The Tampa Bay Cannons (formerly the Jacksonville Cannons) were a professional ultimate team in the South Division of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Cannons were active from 2015 to 2022. History Bill Kilgannon purchased American Ultimate Disc League franchise rights for Jacksonville, Florida in 2012; the team, called the Cannons, debuted in the 2015 season and made the playoffs in its inaugural season. The team drew from many former college during its inaugural season, including those from the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Central Florida. After the team's 2017 season, ownership decided to relocate to Tampa, citing better community interest for games.
